They make what is called MCT Oil, and you might be able to use that , even with a coconut allergy, @Holly Saunders . MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides, and coconut oil is made from several of the essential ones, plus some other oils that are not MCT oils, so it is about 70% MCT. The MCT oil is made from two of the MCT's that are in coconut, so it is 100% MCT; although it does not have the full-spectrum of those like the coconut oil does. In any case, it is the MCT's that help the brain; so you might get a small bottle of this, and test just a little to see if you are allergic or not. It might be refined enough that you would not be allergic, and if so, then you can try that and see if it helps your memory. Google MCT oil and see what you think.
The only thing I have trouble remembering are names of movies and books that aren't classics...maybe because I don't make an effort...or the titles aren't important to me.
@Ken Anderson It might not show, given my proclivity for being verbose and all too descriptive in some of my dissertations, but I have become notoriously short-term forgetful, both of names of people, things, and my intent from one minute to the next. As an example, this afternoon, I baked a cake, using the dish towel on the sink to clean up a lot, so I tossed it in the washer. Coming back into the kitchen, I intended to go over to the drawer, and witthdraw a fresh one, but when I got there, I did not remember why I went over there! Retracing my steps, upon entering the kitchen, I spotted the place missing a rag on the sink, and then I knew. This irks me. Frank
Y'all could do like I do, write notes to yourself. I send myself an email with my passwords to every site.
I remember my passwords, I have a few I use...only problem I have is sometimes I can't remember which one I used where so I have to try a couple...for forums it's usually one or the other. I always remember my yahoo email one but I had to change it recently because of issues yahoo was having. They're always strong passwords because they're not in English.
@Chrissy Cross Thanks for the laugh, Chrissy! I pictured myself using Polish or Czech, and then seeing if any hackers or crooks were Polish or Czech! Frank
I too have trouble remembering words, but I'll remember mathematic formulas for ever it seems. So for passwords I've begun converting nonsensical words into numbers. My first try was with,"shefarts4", then there was, "wear0undies". Seems to be working so far.
In some ways, my memory is very sharp. We can be watching a movie and I can recognize someone in the movie that has appeared in another movie. My wife can get stunned over that. However, for a number of "need to remember to do this/watch this", I use yellow Sticky Notes. For on a Saturday morning, we generally make a list of the places we need to go/things we need to do, but first place is either McDonald's or Waffle House for breakfast. We also mark things on our kitchen calendar that we are doing or have done.
I make lists when I'm leaving for a trip because that's important when you live alone and are leaving your house for a month. Although by now I know my lists by heart and never forget anything anyway, I still make them. I remember everyone's birthday without a reminder... Probably about 25 people that are important and get sent a card and gift or just a text but that's all still in my head. All family...kids, siblings.. their spouses, nieces and nephews and of course the most important ...5 grandsons.
We pretty much depend on Facebook letting us know about birthdays. That is, if those people have a Facebook page. If not, then we have to try and remember and that's not always easy.
Umm, I think after reading all of this, I must be doing real good. As for Passwords... there are so many I have had a password manager for years. I use my phone for almost everything...grocery list, contacts, dates i need to remember. But i still like using a pen and paper for my weekly to do list and reminders. My hearing is very bad...but not due to my age... and that alone causes memory issues at times. Plus I try to focus only the good things to remember. But I to have gone to do something...oh yes this was bad a few years back... went to the grocery store, got royally upset because i could not find the bakery..went to check out handed the girl my royalty card( I hate them but what tha hey) and she goes "Um, mam, this is Walmart not Kroger". I cried all the way home, I felt like a friggen idiot. Of all the diseases in the world - I fear Big Al the most.
