Melania Trump opened with the Lord's Prayer during the recent Trump rally in Florida and, to no surprise, she is being slammed by the media for everything imaginable, including plagiarizing the Lord's Prayer, as well as for her accent, and the inappropriateness of bringing religion into a political speech. Well I do have to agree with the comment about her having to read it, unless she never learned it in English but in her native language. She also made a booboo...added "For thine is the power, etc. Not how I learned it.
That's how I always heard it, @Chrissy Cross . "For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen." Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thine kingdom come, Thine will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. If I had to say it in front of a crowd, I would absolutely want it printed on a piece of paper.
I learned it like this.... Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
No, that simply shows that she's not Catholic. The doxology that you are referring to (For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, Amen) is found in manuscripts using the Byzantine text of Matthew 6:13, but not in the manuscripts used by the Catholic church. Not all Protestant churches use translations that include that either, but many do.
No, I couldn't even read it in front of a million people. I always mess up on the Lord's Prayer but I can rattle off the Hail Mary probably in my sleep, Actually The Apostles Creed was always my favorite and I still know that one better than the Lord's Prayer even though it's longer.
good for her. even the prez had no idea it was coming. woman knows what she's doing. and oh my did she flame a lot of liberal ass's. which is one of my favorite hobby's
This brings to mind something that happened once in church. The church had the screen with the words to hymns, prayers and the Apostle's Creed so that you could read in case you forgot the words. Now you would think that repeating the Creed week after week you would have it down pat. When the screen broke down one week mid Creed you would be amazed at how fast 100 voices turned into less than 20....just sayin'
Ha ha....I'd be one that knew it...just because I liked it. I do mess up the Lord's Prayer though, forget the order of the verse.
I don't know if that's so much a denominational matter as it is a matter of translation. Some Bible translations use debts, while others use trespasses, but the definition, in context, is the same. Some Protestant denominations use a defined translation, such as some Baptist churches that use only the King James Version of the Bible, recognizing only that translation as being authoritative, but most churches that I have attended allow each member to use whichever translation they please. Others have a preferred translation, but it's more a matter of making sure that everyone is on the same page, given that it's easier for a pastor to preach from the same translation that the congregation is reading from.
