Cleared Cache, Cookies, Etc, = Lost Passwords

Discussion in 'Gadgets & Tech Talk' started by Janice Martin, Feb 23, 2017.

  1. When I made the mistake of clearing everything, it didn't occur to me my passwords would vanish. The PW's usually stayed in the log-in fields. I can't get into my blog account, and the email account it's connected to provides no option for retrieving passwords. So I'm locked out of the email account permanently.

Is there any way to bring back the cleared stuff?
If it's relevant, I have Firefox and Windows 7.

I thought the info might still be in Chrome, but for some reason Chrome won't connect.

Janice, I am no tech wizard but can you use System Restore to backtrack to the earlier time and go from there to reset all your passwords and mark them down this time.

I am not sure what you cleared @Janice Martin ? It it was just "Firefox" and you have used "Chrome" in the past for accessing sites, the passwords will still be stored in Chrome. Can you open Chrome, it doesn't have to connect, if you can click on the 3 vertical dots on the top right of the toolbar, then open settings , then advanced settings where you will find the passwords link, this will open the passwords box where you can show each password there in turn, by highlighting them..

This is the exact reason I have all of our Sign-On, Username's and Passwords on two lists. One list for me and another for my wife. I remember doing some kind of reset of Windows and losing everything and that sure wasn't fun. And, just to make sure (hopefully) they are safe, laying by our computer, we set our apt. alarm anytime we will be gone at night or on vacation. Don't worry much about daytime hours, because we live right across from the Management Office. And, we always.........always, lock both regular door lock and deadbolt lock when we leave.

Except for my bank online and my main email acct, I really don't care too much about my passwords. You can always get a new one if you can't get on somewhere...even if the email you used is no longer in existence.

There was a forum that I joined years ago but couldn't remember my password and the email I used was an old hotmail one that I don't have anymore ....I just contacted admin of that forum and he found me and sent a password change to my yahoo mail that I gave him.

I'm as usual, a bit confused. Were you not the lady who responded to my question regarding knowing about this technical stuff? You have become, IMO, a victim of the situation I was referring to. If only I could help, but, believe me, if I knew a way to solve your dilemma, I would happily blurt it out. I don't even understand what the dilemma means, unfortunately. Don't forgotten/lost passwords usually present options to get back in via saved security questions?

  10. I never claimed to know everything. :)
Nope, I had the one email service that gives no options for retrieving lost passwords.

I have some online areas where the password has to be changed every three to six months.

I just had to change my main yahoo password on my iPhone and iPad. I wasn't getting my mail, kept saying incorrect passsword.

I have never signed out of there so I was already logged in....I've gotten that message before but ignored it and I still got my mail but not this last time....had to change my password...no big deal.

See if there is anyone you can contact and then send an email from another address, maybe they can help.

I've been banned from SF for a few years now and I still occasionally bother Matrix with an email that I send to the "contact us"at the bottom of the page.

He gets them...sometimes responds, sometimes he doesn't. :)

I liked and respected him...it was his mod that was unfair in my opinion.

Mr. Matrix responded to my very politely-worded email by booting me out! No explanations, no warning. Great guy! A no-nonsense type succumbing to Big Ego.

He always allowed me back with numerous aliases and until SB came back I was allowed to post...the minute SB got online I was banned.

He even gave me rep points and nice comments. One time I even pmd him and told him who I was, I got no reply but didn't get banned....until SB returned from vacation. I always joined with an alias when I knew she was going camping. I've lost interest there now though so barely even read.

I think my last alias was beebee8256 or some number like that.
