It has been a while since we've added something to the forum, so I thought I'd bring this up again. One recommendation that has been made before was a sports topic -- perhaps Sports & Recreation. It would fit in the "Education & Entertainment" category, but I'd need one other topic in order to balance it out, since the default presentation for the forum is a two-column format. So, in other words, I would need one other good topic that pertains to either education or entertainment, or both, and which isn't already covered here, and which wouldn't more appropriately be a sub-forum of one of the other topics here. Any ideas?
There are already quite a few subtitles in the education and entertainment section. What if you put sports/recreation in the lighter side section, and added in one for something like forum community announcements. Right now, we have birthdays in one place, alerts and announcements in the family section, and most of the other announcements get (wrongly) posted up at the top in the forum administration notices, which should not be for anything but admin-type of announcements. When some singer or movie star dies, that ends up in news, or off-topic, or almost anywhere. So none of these kinds of announcements are organized at all, and often get missed. We have had birthday wishes that were posted 2-3 months later because someone just discovered the post. If the new subject could be called something like Community Birthdays , Obits, and other announcements, then we could have a central place for all of that kind of stuff instead of it being scattered all over the forum.
@Ken Anderson. I see what you are saying. What do you think about adding to Education and Entertainment - What I learned today. It would cover both education and entertainment. We never stop learning even the simpliest things and sure to be entertaining enough to spark up responses.
Can I get some help in coming up with another forum topic that would fit in the "Education & Entertainment" category to go along with "Sports & Entertainment," which I would like to add.
What would you have in mind for it? If it would be a place to post something, and have others guess whether it is true or false, I like it and think it would make a good topic, but the forum games section might be a better place for it. Or do you have something else in mind for it?
Since it would be in the Education and Entertainment forum more in line with the education and of course we all find a way to add a little entertainment. Something that we have or had experienced based on actual fact or fiction. ex. I thought that I was the only one born on my birthday (hint, hint) until I started kindergarten and found out another classmate was born on 'my birthday' too. I could elaborate on it more about how it affected me but I hope you grasp the concept as a possibility.
@Von Jones, let me give it some thought. Oh, I like the idea and want to find a place for it - it's just the placement I'm not sure about. I am not saying no, but I'll get back to you, probably tomorrow. If anyone has any new forum topics they'd like to see added, this would be a good time to put them up since, while I am in the back-end adding two, I can just as easily add two more.
I'm not persuaded that the proposed "Fact or Fiction" category would be a good fit for the "Education & Entertainment" category but would still like another forum to go along with "Sports & Recreation." Maybe it would. I don't know, but it still seems like a better fit for the games section.
I have started a sub-forum to the Games and Riddles section for Game Development. It is a place where new games can be discussed or created collaboratively. There is also a (fairly) new sub-forum to the News & Announcements section for miscellaneous Comments on the Forum - except for help requests, which should be made either directly to me, or in the Help section of the forum.
