Early this morning I had trouble logging in and it's not the first time this has happened either. Since my daughter and her husband live in a rural area like I do they don't have the best options for Internet service either and so many times a window will open and say the connection took to long, or no internet service and I have seem the no secure connection too. I don't think it's on Ken's end but with the lousy internet services we are stuck with for now. I also had trouble getting my posts to post this morning.
Once again trying to in sign it...says not a secure sever. And trying to type on here is an issue. Delayed typing ... like it sticks. Seems to only be on here. A secure server starts with https// and has a key at the end...so what is going on i wonder .
Online forums are dependent upon accessing the forum's database over and over, so any little glitch in the connection, anywhere between where you are and where the forum's server is, can cause an error. If the forum's resources are stretched due to too much activity at one time, the chances of an error are increased. We have way more resources here than our membership suggests but someone doesn't have to be logged into the forum in order to add to the demand on resources. DOS attacks on the forum will increase the demand. I get errors here sometimes, but I also get them on Facebook, Minds, and on other forums that I go to.
This is what bothers me : in secured sites the address would read -https://...and many times end with an S...meaning a secure site. Not sure why this site does not have that. The only real way to at least secure yourself more is to have a complex password. Any site can be hacked as we all know The only real problem for me at the moment......call me weird..is outsiders being able to read our posts...just think this bad...even though they must sign in to post, they should not be able to read posts either.
Most forums, unless they are private let non members read. People will seldom bother joining a forum unless they can read it beforehand. I'm not worried about this forum being hacked....what info is on here that most don't already know about me?
We wouldn't get any new members if it were closed. As @Chrissy Cross says, most people want to read for a while before creating an account, plus closed forums shut the search engines out too, so it wouldn't even be found on searches. When we get to be a few years old, I might set up a private area of the forum for members who have been around the longest.
WTH is a "secure server"? And, what consequences might present due to an "unsecure server"? Baffled by the new technology, I am. Frank
A secure server adds to the hurdles that a connection has to go through, so it would increase the likelihood of an error, although probably not significantly. I would expect to find a secure server on any web site that is storing my credit card or billing information, and that's not even every sales site -- since some of them don't store this information.
The problems could be caused by your I.S.P. or router. How old are your routers for example , and does the router firmware update automatically? There is no simple answer here, it could even be how your computer is configured, a bug in windows 10, or whatever. I don't have any problem logging in, but i have noticed that any changes I make to the appearance of the Web Page doesn't stick . each time I log in it changes back to the default.
