I think that weather changes are part of spring, everywhere, and it certainly does keep a person busy deciding what to wear and looking to see what the Weather Channel app says is going to happen next. We are at that point right now where it is nice most of the day, and cools off rapidly when the sun goes behind the trees in the west. Thunderstorms coming in this afternoon, and rain for most of next week; so I guess we are getting the jump on April Showers this year. Yesterday, I dug up some irises from the house next door (the empty one where Bobby is working) and transplanted them along one side of our driveway, and today I want to get a little more rototilling done around the strawberries before the rains come in. I love this part of the year when it is a good temperature for me to be able to work outside ! !
There is plenty of humidity in Louisiana too, but for the past few weeks, even with the nice warm weather we have had alot of wind too. And here in Texas at my daughter's it seems to always be windy for some reason. It has been warm here also. The way the temperature is starting out so high I'm thinking it will be a really hot summer not only in Louisiana and Texas but in most of the southern states. To much heat is just like to much cold to me...not really good for outdoor activities for very long!
We have been talking about what summer will bring, too, @Babs Hunt . Last winter was not as much cold as we usually have here in Alabama, and then we just seemed to slip right on into spring when February came, although we did have another cold snap this month. We had tornado warnings, and even tornadoes in some places during the winter months, which is not usual, although obviously possible. It may well be that we are having a very hot summer this year, if the warmer weather now is any indication of what is coming for the rest of the year. I agree with you that too much heat is just as bad as too much cold, and the humidity makes it even worse because it is so hard to even breathe the air when it is so humid. I miss the fresh air we had in Idaho, but not the cold winters, and no matter where you live, there are always some kinds of weather issues. To deal with , it seems like. Yesterday, it was almost 80 again, although breezy, and I was out. Working in the yard most of the day. I do dsome more raking and cleaning of the pine needles, and also rototilled in the strawberry patch, and then we had rain most of the late afternoon and night; so everything I have been planting is all watered and happy now, hopefullly.
I miss the cool sea breeze we experienced often when my Honey and I lived in Jacksonville, FL. The weather was very much like it is in Louisiana but to me the humidity wasn't as bad. I hated the violence in Jacksonville though so I would never consider moving back there. But I do miss those "air conditioned" sea breezes.
I woke up at 3am and decided I had waited long enough for my garden plants...so I went down to our stay open 24 hour Walmart and bought us a tomato and bell pepper plant. I had "dreams of a much bigger Spring garden this year but so far the New Year isn't cooperating, so I will have to adjust my dreams for now. Two veggie plants are better than no veggie plants for sure.
I know my town Chrissy....and I know my Walmart and I'm glad I live in a town where I still feel safe enough to go to Walmart early in the morning!
You're lucky...although my Walmart is safe enough, I just don't see that well driving in the dark and avoid it unless absolutely necessary! My eyes are very sensitive to headlights.
I don't see that well driving in the dark either anymore Chrissy but I bought a pair of yellow tinted glasses that cuts way down on the glare...and the route I took is lit up with street lights, etc. for the most part. And Walmart's parking lot is lit up with lots of lights too. I actually love shopping early in the morning when there are no crowds and there are only a few customers and stockers in the store. I can take all the time I want browsing the aisles and seeing what's new, etc. I bought a new purse with some of my birthday money. And I would have liked to have spent much more time in the garden area but I wanted my Honey to be with me so we can decide on some more veggies and flowers, etc. together. We will probably head back there today after he goes to work for a few hours to do the Dairy Order. There were so many pretty flowers this year....and I checked out some "patio" veggies that grow smaller eggplants, etc. so the plants don't take up as much room. I have always wanted to do an herb garden too in some planters that I could hang on the porch railings. I've got all these thoughts running around in my head...it's good to feel like creating again.
I'll have to look into the yellow tinted glasses. I also like to shop early but I wait til the sun rises. I've given up on anything in pots here, I'm away too much in the summer and they will die if not watered. I've tried everything like running a line from a sprinkler head but it's just not enough. I don't even know if our drought watering restrictions are lifted this summer. i have so many huge empty clay pots from when I tried...
Ha!! Exactly like Southern England @Gloria Mitchell ..many days where we get 4 seasons in one day...although in summer we rarely go over the low 80's... so not as hot as Texas
Is Walmart open 24 hours a day ? shopping at 3 am @Babs Hunt that's a little to,early for me now the only things I've ever seen about Walmart is the way some dress, while shopping , Is it only a food store , we don't have then in Australia ,only Woolworths Costco, Coles ,Aldi and Foodland
Some Walmarts are like the one in the main part of my City. I love Walmart since it's one stop shopping and the prices are good. There are some strangely dressed people at times...but as long as they don't tell me how to dress...I'm not going to tell them either. And no it is a food store, department store, pharmacy, garden center, etc. There's not to much you can't find at Walmart and the prices are within my budget for things and that's what really matters to me.
Most of our supermarkets here are 24 hour stores, and I've shopped at 2 am in the past when I couldn't sleep or coming back from work, and did the shopping before getting home. the only thing I don't like about it is that the all the shelf fillers have all their crates all the way down every aisle so it's a squeeze getting past them ... and trying to dodge all the empty boxes and trash that's in the way.. Oh and there's never any fresh bread because the bakery doesn't begin baking until 6am..
