Watched a comedian last night talking about her dislike of Magicians, we were on a par with this, as I'm not keen either and never watch them now. They all present pretty much the same style, pretty much the same act Yes its clever stuff but bores me silly Do you like to watch them ?
Nope...for the same reasons as you @Patsy Faye . It's clever stuff, but for me it's now passé and boring
Not the big name ones or ones that have shows but I did know someone in the 80's who did some magic acts right before your eyes as a hobby and he was amazing...taught me a simpler trick but I forgot it.
I remember when I was in high school, we had a magician come through the area, and he put on a performance at our high school gym. His wife was his assistant, and they were awesome to watch, and I loved it ! Since then, I have never had an occasion to actually watch one perform live, and the ones on television do not actually interest me very much. So many things can be set up to look like something they aren't when you are just watching it on television, so who knows whether the ones who perform on some TV show have worked it all out beforehand with the people participating. They seem to do such impossible things that look like they were set up before the show, and I think that the show hosts are just acting the part of surprised participants. That said, I do like movies about magicians, and one of my all-time favorite movies is called "The Illusionist". Of course, it is also a wonderful love story, and I am one of those hopeless Romantics who enjoys love stories. If you have not already seen this movie, it is worth watching (whether you like love stories or not), because it has a fantastic plot as well.
I like watching magicians, but sometimes an act can get somewhat "whacky" and/or scary. My wife doesn't like magic acts at all. I use to watch a show about "magic acts uncovered"...........IOW, how they are done. It was pretty amazing and interesting. I've watched Doug Henning and David Copperfield on tv. We have the movie, Now You See Me. I went to a magic show at Magic Mountain in Valencia, California years ago. I was sitting in an isle seat (next to the isle). One second the magician was onstage and the next, a puff of white smoke and the guy appeared right next to me. Talking about shocked! To this day I remember that.
I just remembered a magic/comedy show I went to in Maui...not cheap but he was hilarious and I did enjoy that. Trying to remember his name but can't ...
Yeah, me too...this was a great show...not because of the magic tricks but he was funny and involved the audience.
That was what was so good about that show about revealing how magic was done by magicians. The magician that done the show had his face covered, but he did reveal some very interesting magic done by some very good magicians.
