Lots of things irritate me @Patsy Faye , one that particularly irks is when a supermarket brings out a new range of something which I really like, and then stops selling it soon after. For example I used to be able to buy dark chocolate ice lollies from Sainsbury...but no longer... they only stock milk chocolate galore ......I can get dark chocolate bars but the quality of chocolate is not as good as the lollies... but I can't buy dark chocolate any more...and this happens with lots of things. I used to be able to buy frozen scallops in a white wine and cheese sauce from tesco.... delicious...but nope, they don't sell them any more... It happens with so many things, it's become a joke in this house. Oh the supermarket doesn;t sell such and such any more, musta been too popular!!
Holly, we all experience the pain of - we longer carry items. In retail, it can happen because- one the item is not profitable enough, meaning that item is not bought enough, to take up space. Second, the vendor itself may just stop making it,very common in cosmetic depts. Third, if the vendor the company is buying from, will not give them a good deal -then store will cancel item. Fourth - everything- I do mean everything, is done by regions and zip codes. For instance , your chocolates , may very well be sold in another region or zip code...just not yours any more. What I can buy here, does not mean you can find it in NYC ,and vs versa. We have stores here called Big Lots. All they sell is dis continued items and sizes. Great place to buy and and good prices. They carry just about everything except actual clothing. What ever the reason, when good things we have use for years, suddenly disappear, it is beyond maddening
How right you both are ! Its the 'main' thing that gets me goat - besides living here Even when you 'know' the items are popular because you can see the stock dwindle each week - they 'still' stop the line !
Hi Augusta - the problem with those is they are 'outdoor' wear, I just want a simple light indoor slipper ....... Thanks for thinking of me x
I spent a number of years working in Inventory and Inventory Management and this "stopping or continuation" of certain products is called "supply and demand". If there is not enough "demand" for a product, the store will stop having it. If any of you owned, or had owned, a business, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about. Some consumers get upset when a store stops supplying certain products that you loved, but there has to be a certain amount of "demand" for them to keep spending money on buying those products to sell.
Of course Cody, but we are talking of products that 'are' popular I think its because shops are saturated with so many brands of the same product, they need the space !
Well, unless you go to the store and that certain product is "out of stock", it's not as popular as you may think. Sometimes it's hard to tell how a product is selling unless a person looks at the inventory record of sales. And, from what I've seen, many products are discontinued in the store and sold only online, while some other products are sold online only.
As I buy favourites on a regular basis, I can see how the stock goes and it dwindles or is out of stock till, they fill the shelf again
Oh, I'm with ya on that- like a product for a long time, then find the company no longer makes it. I found a couple of items on eBay, but wondered what condition they'd be in if they'd been sitting around for years or decades after the companies stopped making them- one was Avon's Sweet Honesty soap, another was the Caress brand of Spring Blush products. Did have one experience, though- bought a discontinued Max Factor foundation, more than I wanted to pay for it, and it was NOT the same product I was familiar with- much thinner than the 'real' product, and even the scent was different. I've also had plenty of experiences with liking products in one place and finding they're not sold in other places. As for the OT, though: slippers- I hate them, don't wear them, don't own any.
As far as slippers goes, I wear crocks both in the house and sometimes out if I'm not doing much walking.. They are very comfortable, made from soft rubber, easy to step into, and are very affordable (cheap)... I pay only $6.00 for a pair and they last me about 8 or more months....
Another thing that bugs me is the cost of gas (petrol) at the pumps.. When oil was around the $150.00 a barrel mark, the gas at the pumps was $1.35 a liter.. When the price of oil dropped down to about $30.00 a barrel, the gas only went down to .85 cents a liter.. Now that oil has gone up from $30.00 to $50.00 a barrel, gas is now $1,27 a liter.... GO FIGURE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE PRICE OF GAS....
I probably wear a pair of ankle socks around my house as much as I wear my slippers. My slippers are special though because they were my Mom's and when I do wear them I think of her.
Exactly the same here...unleaded for me is around £1.16 a litre at the pumps this week ( and around £1.29 for super unleaded for my o/h) .. which is the cheapest it's been for us for a while..it shot up last month to around £1.27 for unleaded 95 .. (that's around $2.19 in Canadian dollars per litre)....so although I understand your anger...it could be a lot worse, you could be paying UK prices..
