The last movie I saw in the theatre was Fahrenheit 911. Any political affiliation aside. I saw Dances With Wolves in the theatre. Then I think I would have to go back to the early 80's when it was still fun. Seeing Trading Places was memorable to me. But I have no desire to go to a movie anymore. It's not fear because of the few terrible attacks. It's just sitting there, among strangers. Being at home is so much more appealing. May get Netlix some day. I really do miss the Internet Movie Data Base forums for discussion of older and less well known movies.
Couldn't we do that here Kitty ? I'm an older movie fan. Not too keen on modern movies and I'm not an action packed fan either I like movies with 'good' dialogue, such as 'Twelve Angry Men' BTW, haven't been to the cinema since the 80s
We love going to the theater, but it has to a movie that has good reviews and people we know. Don't go that often though. But, when we do, it's a large buttered popcorn, a large regular Coke and some candy my wife puts in a sandwich baggie inside her pocket. Last night, at home, we watched Grownups (again) w/Adam Sadler. Have the dvd. One of the movies we really like. We both have a great "sense of humor", so these kinds of movies are what we like, along with Action and some religious ones we have in our collection. Looking very, very forward to getting to the theater in December to see The Last Jedi.
People's interests are so varied. I can't say I'm an old movie buff but if something had interest for me that would be the place I would go. For example I always thought the movie "Giant" was a "Dallas" type movie about rich land owners and I knew it had big stars in it although I have never seen it. I saw a program on PBS about the making and subject of the movie and had no idea it explored racism against Mexican Americans also during that time. So I went to the boards to read more. And the board had recent posts. You could also go to boards about old TV shows like I Dream of Jeannie and Emergency and they were surprisingly active.
I don't go to the Movies much anymore either. I have many reasons for that, but the main reason would be that most movies they make now days aren't worth the price of a movie ticket to me.
With all the tech on my tv ...hv no need to go see a movie... I can even get those playing in theatres now on my tv. Of the few I have watched. ...would have been bloody pissed to have paid for them
I haven't been to the theater since the mid 90s. With all the types of media created since then VHS, DVD, blu-ray, streaming boxes, cable, satellite, am I missing anything? The thought of doing all it takes to just get to the theater isn't exciting anymore not to mention getting back home. I would much rather going to a drive-in theater.
The last time I went to a movie it was at a drive in theatre and we know they are extinct now Better to sit home with a taped program that you can put on hold to run for a bathroom break or wine refill.
We live two blocks from a wonderful heritage-protected cinema built in the art deco style, and we wander up there every few weeks to see something or other. The early morning and late night times are best for us, and sometimes we are the only ones in the audience. Saw "Viceroys House" last week, about the end of the British Raj in India in the late 1940s. Next week we will see "Churchill". They showed a newly restored print of Gone With The Wind recently, and some other classics. Movies are one of my favorite things! We don't have TV, Cable, Netflix, etc. Just what we can see on our PCs, and the cinema a few blocks away. And as seniors we get a great discount, too.
Gloria, maybe drive-ins will make a comeback.....would be nice especially for families with young ones. Put them in their pj's bring your own healthier and cheaper snacks....what's not to like.

One of my favorite things when I was growing up was going to the movies ! Sometimes, it was the Saturday matinee at the old theater downtown, and in the summertime, we often loaded into the old Buick and went to the drive-in. It was called the Motor Movie in our town, and I think they were only open on weekends. There was a playground set in the front up where the big screen was, and all of the kids would play there until we saw the movie starting, and then we all ran for our cars. It was 35 cents for a movie ticket, and $1 for the whole carload at the drive-in. I miss those days ! Now, we very rarely go to the theater, and Bobby never goes at all. Sometimes, Robin will find a movie and she and I will go. The last one we went to see was about a month ago, and it was "Beauty and the Beast". It was actually a pretty good movie, and not one of those that you feel like you wasted your money to go and see. The movie theater had recliner chairs in every row, with little stands on the side and cup holders. It was like watching a movie at home in your own recliner. We have maybe come full circle with this. You can buy surround-sound, big-screen television, and whatever else you need to make it seem like you are watching the movie at the theater (from your own home) and now the theaters are making it like you are watching the movie from home instead of from the theater.
