I just ordered a DVD player, which is something I never thought I'd do. This is one, probably meant for traveling, that has a small screen attached to it - an all-in-one DVD player/viewer.

First, it cost less than a hundred dollars. I looked for one because my iMac is way too picky about the DVDs that it will play. When I get a DVD from Netflix, I have to clean it before putting it in the DVD drive and, even then, it often has trouble playing it, skipping over supposedly damaged spots that a DVD player probably wouldn't even notice. I often have to send them back and sometimes the replacement doesn't work either.

I bought a low-end DVD player but, for some reason, I can't get it to work with my television. I have set up DVD players to televisions before and it has never been a complicated affair, but this isn't working. The TV tells me it's set up but can't ever find it when I am trying to play a DVD.

So, instead I bought a 10.5" portable DVD player that I can set up when I need it, and put it away in the meantime.

I like that one...but I don't watch DVDs. If I did I think I'd buy that one, seems perfect.

@Ken Anderson , if a DVD won't play because it is scratched, you can spray it with Endust , wipe it with a soft cloth or paper towel and it will play. It works. I have done it many times.

It only works with Endust, though. Other waxes won't work.

they make disc cleaners that do a credible job,I have one but then I have a lot of DVD's. and from the stores or mail they can be really scratched or marred.

As a matter of fact, I see that Endust makes a DVD cleaner.

I don't really want to spend $40-50 though, as nearly everything I watch on DVD is from Netflix. I don't need to fix them; I just need to get them to play once. Usually, I can do that with a regular screen cleaner. But there are some DVDs that just won't play on my iMac, and I am thinking they'll probably play on the DVD player.

that high but the Endust looks cheap enough. I doubt if they make mine anymore. I bought it years ago. I used to rent from Block buster before they crashed. and Netflix to. a lot of those DVD's were not in good shape. so I got my money's worth from the cleaner. now I buy the file download and burn to a disc. they'll play on a DVD player. they were designed to and DVD players are cheap now

They still make the Memorex OptiFix Pro - that's the one that's nearly fifty bucks.
