When we first moved to Jacksonville in Jan 2009, the crime didn't seem to be nearly as bad as now. There has been a major population growth since we moved here. We really thought we'd be able to handle the heat plus high humidity, but that just hasn't happened. Many folks who have lived in Florida and left, call Florida "swear, sweat and more miserable sweat.". Believe it or not, we've taken two Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Classes and still don't really know as much as we should on the water here. Just too much navigational stuff to learn here! Lakes are so much easier for us to boat on. One guy, in a relocation website, told me the population in the town we are looking at to move to is 76,000. He said, "that's a lot of people". I said, with the abbreviation LOL before "that isn't nothing! Here the population is 850,000 and metro is 1.5 million". Anyway, most likely anywhere we wind up moving to will have a winter of snow/ice. Will just have to cope with it.
I almost drown once saving my grandson in deep water. Since my lungs don't have much hair in them I won't get near water. Scared of it.
@Babs Hunt...........Wife was sure glad to read that somebody FINALLY understands why we no longer like it here. I have an app from a newspaper of the city we are looking at possibly moving to and they have literally no crime compared to here. It really amazes both of us. One thing for sure, JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office) Officers sure don't have to worry about keeping busy here!
Once the cons outweighed the pros for us...we knew we could not live in Jacksonville anymore. I keep only the good memories of JAX in my heart.
