I realy don't like tile floors except in the bathroom. I'm still waiting for our next door neighbor to come back from his summer fishing cottage. He's going to help us take our vinyl flooring up in the bathroom and lay some tile down in there. It really needs to be updated. I love the real wood flooring we have in the rest of our home..it's such a nice blend of warm colors and so easy to clean. Dusting is really the job that takes the most time...and I hate dusting because it always makes me sneeze and get stuffy.

I have tile in my bathrooms and my kitchen and dining area, wood in the living room, hallway and den and carpet in all 4 bedrooms plus my master bathroom is carpet except for the small room that just has the toilet.

So, I get to use everything from a vacuum cleaner to mops and everything in between.

I like wood floors too and they look nice until the sun shines in on them and then you wonder where all that dust came from so quickly. :)

Medicare should include house cleaning services.

That's so nice you have someone to help you keep the place clean. He sounds like a good man.

I agree. I don't get Medicare but if and when I do that would be nice.

Well since I posted last on this thread I did get someone once a month.

First two months were deep cleanings and cost $155 each time.

This month will be a regular clean for $120 but I don't have them cleaning two bedrooms that I never use so I could lower my price.

I'll still do this months cleaning but I wasn't that impressed with my deep cleaning...so we shall see.

I do my own cleaning in my little apartment.

The hardest part for me is getting started.

Being neat and keeping the place smelling fresh go along way to creating the illusion that the place is clean.

I also find that editing out the clutter is a big help in speeding up the job.

I try to spend a few minutes each day doing a little spot cleaning, straightening, etc... An hour to an hour and a half once a week to run the vacuum, dust, mop the kitchen and clean the bathroom is about all it takes.

I use a Swiffer stick with a double layer of paper towels in place of the pad and a spray bottle with household ammonia, a few drops of dish soap and some water as the cleaning agent. I use the ammonia mixture to spray and wipe down the shower and bathroom tile. I use a microfiber duster from the dollar store and a can of Pledge with a rag to dust and polish. I recently bought a bagless vacuum and I'm amazed at the dust that it picks up each week, I think it is mainly the fiber from the inexpensive landlord carpet.
