I read a devotional most a.m.'s, and I was really struck by this mornings because I realized how true this is, in my experience. If you are anything like me, you tend to listen to those with power & money. Living around the homeless so much in the last, 2 years I realized I never want to listen to a so-called "babbling" poor man/woman. But because of a persons wealth, or lack thereof, I think I will not be swayed after reading this today, Denise. I wish there were a poor, wise, man running for President of the US: Ecclesiastes 9:13-18 New King James Version (NKJV) Wisdom Superior to Folly 13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: 14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares[a] around it. 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. 16 Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. 17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good.”
How true that is. You only have to think of the leadership in a country like North Korea and contrast that with the words of a poor but loving mother who is bringing her kids up to respect others and be kind.
Thanks for sharing those verses, here they are, from the Message Bible: Eccl. 9:13-18 13 One day as I was observing how wisdom fares on this earth, I saw something that made me sit up and take notice. 14 There was a small town with only a few people in it. A strong king came and mounted an attack, building trenches and attack posts around it. 15 There was a poor but wise man in that town whose wisdom saved the town, but he was promptly forgotten. (He was only a poor man, after all.) 16 All the same, I still say that wisdom is better than muscle, even though the wise poor man was treated with contempt and soon forgotten. 17 The quiet words of the wise are more effective Than the ranting of a king of fools. 18Wisdom is better than warheads, But one hothead can ruin the good earth.
