Eric Bogle, originally from Scotland but emigrated to Australia. I saw him play at a folk club in the south of England a few years ago. His other really famous song was 'No Man's Land (The Green Fields of France'), which was covered superbly by The Men They Couldn't Hang some time in the late eighties.

My favorite songs depends much on the moment I'm living, sometimes is one, sometimes is other, but usually my favorite song of the moment falls on any of my very all-time favorite singers/songwriters/bands whether J.D. Souther, The Eagles and Poco, among others.

Simply reading this thread brought to mind my very favorite song from Christopher Cross, "Ride Like the Wind" usually playing in my head when I'm walking out there in windy days.

For the past few months my favorite song among my favorites was J.D. Souther's "Simple man, Simple Dream," but this is my song rolling on through this week:

    While We're Still Young

Out in the night, lovers hold hands as they stake out the light
Sirens scream as they rush out of sight

We whisper plans and promise to love for as long as we can
We'll make this night the night it began

While we're still young, while we're still young, while we're still young

Down on the street, strangers trade glances each time their eyes meet
Neon lights dance as if to a beat

We take it slow and wait for our song on the car radio
Then sing along with the words that we know

While we're still young, while we're still young, while we're still young

Take my hand and hold on tight, we'll go running, running from the light
We may stand, we may fall, take a chance to lose it all

While we're still young, while we're still young, while we're still young

Out in the night, lovers hold hands as they stake out the light
Sirens scream as they rush out of sight

While we're still young, while we're still young, while we're still young
While we're still young, while we're still young, while we're still young
    While we're still young

I listened to some of those but not all of them yet. Fabulous!

If I had to pick a favorite right now, it would be "Sunshine" by John Denver. Of course, five minutes from now, it might be another one. But that one always remains high on my list.

    I love Celtic Women.

I have many favourite songs, but this one I have always loved over the years, I met Ralph a few times at concerts during the '80s and found him very kind and approachable.

    Ralph McTell Streets of London

Have you seen the old man
    In the closed-down market
    Kicking up the paper,
    with his worn out shoes?
In his eyes you see no pride
Hand held loosely at his side
    Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

Chorus: So how can you tell me you're lonely,
And say for you that the sun don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
Show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags?
    She's no time for talking,
She just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home in two carrier bags.

    Chorus

    In the all night cafe
    At a quarter past eleven,
Same old man sitting there on his own
    Looking at the world
Over the rim of his teacup,
    Each tea lasts an hour
    And he wanders home alone

    Chorus

Have you seen the old man
    Outside the Seaman's Mission
Memory fading with the medal ribbons that he wears
    In our winter city,
The rain cries a little pity
    For one more forgotten hero
And a world that doesn't care

    Chorus

One of my favorite songs is Journey's Don't Stop Believing.

There are many favorite songs that I have. One of them is this one that I like to listen to every so often. When I don't get to hear it on the radio I go to youtube.com and find it to listen to. I like jazz by Hiroshima where they have the electrified koto that's so interesting to hear!

I like anything by Buddy Holly. His music takes me back to the days of the great cars and motorcycles of the 1950's. The girls in tight sweaters and skirts dancing and twirling, the all night campfire beer parties on a remote river bank. On the other hand, I like AC/DC music too.

    One of my many favorites.
The Dangling Conversation ...I like the lyrics (below)…

    "The Dangling Conversation"

It's a still life water color,
    Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
    And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
    Couched in our indifference,
    Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
    In the dangling conversation
    And the superficial sighs,
    The borders of our lives.

And you read your Emily Dickinson,
    And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
    That measure what we've lost.
    Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
    Couplets out of rhyme,
    In syncopated time
    And the dangled conversation
    And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
    "Can analysis be worthwhile?"
    "Is the theater really dead?"
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
    I cannot feel your hand,
You're a stranger now unto me
    Lost in the dangling conversation.
    And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

Whenever your name pops up Lara I am reminded of Lara's theme from one of my favourite films Doctor Zhivago
