was an Ariel square four 1000cc with a Steib sidecar , I was only 16 and drove this for years and never had an accident (or caused any)
I knew you could get around driving a bike with a sidecar with only a bike licence or even a provisional rather than a car licence but I don't think it was 16 nor do i think you would be legal to ride a 1000cc bike...however I'll check up on that... what year was this?
My first car was a 1956 Chrysler with a push-button transmission and automatic windows. Unfortunately, although it looked pretty, it didn't run very well and I didn't have the money or the ability to fix it. Mostly, I would sit in it and run the windows up and down until the battery died. This isn't my actual car, but this is what it looked like. My first car that I could actually drive around was an old Ford pickup truck - 1955 or 1956, I think.
My first ride was a Honda 50cc. If it had any other name I don't know it. Just know the "tomboy" in me loved it.
When I got married to my ex-husband, he loved DeSotos, and the first car that we had was his old 55 model, with a hemi and big engine. It quit running a few months after we got married; but he had other DeSotos after that, and most of them were about 1959-60 and they had the big wings in the back, similar to this one. We only had one vehicle for many years, and I can't remember which was the first one that was actually mine; but the first one that I really remember as being specifically MY vehicle was an old Datsun pickup, which I dearly loved.
It was 1966 and the age was 16 for driving a motorcycle under 250cc as a learner but with a sidecar there was no engine size limit. That law was introduced circa 1961. My memory hasn't gone yet and have just double checked the facts. Let me know what you find. Also ...in the UK if a three wheeler as in a Harley trike motorcycle is over a certain weight and has a reverse gear it is classed as a three wheeler car and can be driven on a car license without a crash helmet. (if you were an idiot) even though it is a bike ... the weight and reverse gear change the legal classification.
@Ken Anderson - Its beautiful @Yvonne Smith - WOW ! I just love the ol' cars for style @Jeff Tracy - the bike is smashing too !
I had 2 of those... and then I had a Honda 250 RS But my first car was a mini... not this one, but exactly the same... ..and then after a year I got the exact same Morris 1100 as this..
