As seniors now, what are your views on the beauty of the younger generation compared to those of our younger days..teens and 20's...

I know we have facial aesthetics and plastic surgeries to contend with these days...but aside from that...talking natural beauty, do you think that todays' younger generation are more... or less naturally beautiful than our own generation when we were young?

Hard to say @Holly Saunders I personally feel they are the same, but so much makeup is used by both men and women these days, that they often look more beautiful on the surface.
I know it is said beauty is in the eye of the beholder, to a degree I believe this, but I also think at times an inner beauty shines through what may be plain features making them beautiful.
Straying away from the question, I do think some people become more handsome/beautiful as they age [IMG]

    Beauty is there throughout time
Even the beautiful people out there, they can ruin and mask that beauty
Both genders look pretty much the same today, because that's what they aspire to unfortunately
A 'plain Jane' can be stunning because as Terry says, inner beauty does shine through, I've seen it many times

I would say different. I think there are more "pretty" people now. Maybe because I see more mixing of races I don't know.

I look at my year book and we sure had a lot of weird looking people. Maybe the photography is better now, lol.

I also notice everyone has a nice perfect white smile in the kids I see today. Back then kids had buck teeth and everything else. I remember all the boys in my HS where covered with acne now kids see dermatologists.

I'm also only looking at kids in California and it seems they're more fit then in some other states.

Ive joined a private group on Facebook for family of Cal Poly students and Ive seen about 5,000 freshman in photos this week and there isn't a fatter one in any of them.

This was WOW week and they went in groups and for 2 days hiked, canoed, kayaked, swam in the ocean etc.

This is done so that for the few days they had before school started they would meet new people, get to know the campus and not drink at night. :)

Anyway...back on topic...they ALL looked great.

I think that most young people have prettier teeth than kids back then. They have better dental care and those with crooked teeth get braces. Teeth have a lot to do with appearance.

Side note: I spent a small fortune on my DD's teeth and the orthodontist said they were the most perfect teeth he had ever seen. THEN the first boy she brings home has crooked teeth! And pimples!

I know that we see a totally different population, depending on where we live. Here, I see so many that are overweight. They are on their gadgets from the cradle on. Their faces could be pretty but they are fat. I think the ones who are not overweight are better looking than we were back then.

I agree that it depends on what state or area you live in. All the kids here seem active. Yes, they're on the iPhones a lot but they all do things too.

Lots of swimming, surfing, hiking, sports and going to the gym to workout.

I hate having to say this but from what Ive seen here in California ..only the Hispanic moms are overweight and I think that is because of their diet.

Their daughter's aren't following in their footsteps though.

I also see more of the privileged kids than any poor ones....so I might have a slightly biased view.

Also want to add that out of the 5,000 + freshman pics Ive seen this week and most in bathing suits, only a few are even chunky and even those are a fit chunky.

Thankfully I didn't see any anorexic looking skinny either.

My wife who is not hard to look at has thousands of pictures of her with good fitting dresses new hair pieces and the latest makeup on. Only a few picture of her being caught off guard or pictures of her in the morning before she has had a chance to makeup. We are making a decision based off photos and how many photos of persons who are overweight do you see when they claim 1/3 of the population is obese. The olden days the vanity was not quite as high as it is now so making a decision by photos might not be accurate

Wife and I were better looking 10 some years ago, than today. But, then again, we were more active back then than now.

She has told a number of people, "one of the reasons I married him is because he could cook." Unfortunately, my cooking did put extra weight on both of us. Not a lot, but enough.

As far as the Generations before us, I truly believe those folks are much more "health conscious" than many Baby Boomers are. Although, Jacqueline Smith, Stevie Nicks and Harrison Ford are still "hot looking" to us.

Now, in our opinion (wife/I), take away the tattoos and body piercings, more of today's young folks would definitely be better looking. As already stated, "in our opinion".

Having lived near the Texas-Mexican border for 20 years, I noticed that Mexican-American girls were usually fit until they got to be in their late 20s or 30s, and then nearly all of them gained weight, probably more so than other populations. Probably unrelated, but kids tended to speak mostly English until about the same age, when they began speaking Spanish almost exclusively. It was rare to hear kids talking together in Spanish.

I've seen big girls too that look stunning, its all about how you present yerself and how you see yerself
If you take the slovenly approach, you will look, - slovenly
Do the best with what you have to give yerself that lift in your spirit and that happy spirit will shine through
regardless of teeth and any other handicap

Young people of today? Compare? Appearance, especially as preferred by many, altered to provide "uniqueness", personal singularity, like this:

This is precisely what happens in Spain. We were just talking about this the other day. The young Spanish girls are for the most part beautiful and slim...and then at a certain age they all morph into their mothers who are by and large...very round ...and then by the time the women get into old age they all look exactly the same...same haircuts, same floral dresses, same plumpness... it's very strange!!

I have noticed that about the Mexican girls here, too. Some of them are really pretty when they are young but as they get older and gain weight, it seems like their facial features change, too.

@Frank Sanoica , I know a young man who actually did that to his ears. He asked me what I thought about them. I told him that I thought it was gruesome.
