It is pretty common for scammers to take someone's photos, perhaps even altering them slightly, then creating Facebook pages in someone else's name and inviting all of the real person's friends (from their friend's list) to "friend" them. I'm not sure exactly what the scam is but I suppose it has to do with getting information from someone who thinks they know you, or are related to you. I have had several friends who have had their Facebook pages cloned. When someone cloned my younger brother's page, he warned us not to "friend" the fake page, so I told him that the chances were that the imposter was nicer than he was. That's one of the things that frustrate me about Facebook - you can never get back to a page once you move away from it.
Where is the picture Gloria is concerned about ? As you know I use a variety of photo editing progs and might be able to help ...
Ok ...here is deal.. FB or whoever takes a facial recongntion picture of you from previous photos...and they alter it...and use it for advertising purposes. This is why the necklace on that picture of me is not something I would wear. Supposdely only I can see this picture. Its to get your attention to lure you into suggested sites and ect. And its legal . My acct has always been in private mode...however any photos posted are not. I am done with FB...never liked it anyway.Just hacks me off that they can do that.
At least you solved the mystery. That's never happened to me but now I'll know what it is. I have photos set pretty private that only friends can see and my profile pic is pickles and he wouldn't appreciate a necklace at all!
The F-Book is not easy to leave ... make sure you do it thoroughly ... it can take weeks to remove everything ... I know because I left it years ago ...
@Chrissy Cross ...I hate to tell you this...but any photos on FB are not yours alone...they can do whatever they want to with them.My entire account is and has alwsys been private.
I just ditched profile and background picture...and deactivated the acct. I can tend to the rest later. Think I will open Twitter acct and debate with Trump
We had a good friend on Facebook who opened a new page and sent me another friend request. It had the same pictures as his older account, and i just assumed that he had lost his password, or just needed to make a new page for some reason. He wrote to me and asked if we had gotten our free grant yet. It didn’t make much sense to me; but since he ran a food pantry for homeless and poor people, I was not surprised that he was getting some kind of a free grant. What didn’t make sense was why he was asking if we had received our grant yet, because there was no reason that we would qualify for anything like that . I wrote back, asking for more information, and he said that when he got his free grant, he had seen our name on the list as also being eligible for one, and then he included a link for me to go and sign up for my grant. At this point, I was getting really suspicious, so i messaged our friend Chester on his old account, and he said that he had not opened a new account and didn’t know anything about any kind of free grant. So I let him know that his account had been copied, and that he should contact Facebook and have it deleted, and I unfriended this person who was the fake account. I do not know what other reasons someone would steal and account and add your friends, but this is at least one thing that can happen.
After what happened yesterday- I was approved to join a site I had not requested to join. This has happened several times last few years...but with people not groups. Least by dumping FB just one less thing for me to worry about.
