I took the plunge and got a Tablet for Christmas I've tried it today and I'm all fingers and thumbs with it The little booklet gave no indication on what to do It says press the tab for 'manual' - I thought great - never did find the tab So I left Sparky to it (as usual) I feel such a failure with gizmos Its on a charge at present, so maybe tomorrow I'll get the hang of it - or not
I have had one for ages Patsy I barely ever use it unless I'm away from home an Ipad....... it's too fiddly for me, I'm not keen on touch screens but I know lots of people on here use them and like them... and also you can attach a keyboard to them as I know @Yvonne Smith has done .. I hope you get on well with yours
Patsy, I feel your pain. I hate getting used to a new gadget. Got a new phone last month and spent the first week wondering if I could find a cliff high enough to drop it off of. It takes time and I did what I always do....ask a kid, they know and they feel so darn smug helping you out.
Other than my Kindle, I think I'll stay away from tablets. Maybe if the iPads ever get down low enough in price, I'll try one but I can't see replacing my computer with one.
@Missy Lee - oh yes and 'patience' with these things is a must I do think they are over complicated though I will have to persevere as its more comfortable for me to use (seating area)
Ive replaced my computer with my iPad ....I would never go back to a computer but then you do more than I do online. The IPad is the best thing ever. I don't like laptops, so if there were no iPads I wouldn't be online much...the thought of sitting at a desk makes me shudder. I only know apple products so have no idea what other tablets are like.
@Chrissy Cross - How do you get on typing Chrissy ? You seem to be very quick. Feels odd to me, like pressing on a table - I'll have to cut me nails too
Chrissy seems to do great with typing on the virtual keyboard; but I don’t like it, and prefer to rest my wrists on a regular keyboard when I type. I have wondered if the virtual keyboard might be part of the shoulder problem she has; but she seems to like typing that way so it must not be affecting her shoulder. I use a keyboard case for mine, and you can find them in all colors and sizes on Amazon, as well as the lapdesks, which help to rest the tablet on the arm of your recliner. Here is a quick example of some of the keyboards you can find on Amazon.
I'll take a look if I need to, which I probably will At the moment its updating (again) So, not much practise today
Guess I'm used to it...don't type like I would on a keyboard....just use my right index finger and maybe my right thumb.
I really like my 10" Nexus 7 tablet. I use it mostly as an E-reader or solitaire games but I can use the on-screen keyboard or a separate external keyboard. I also use a 11" Chromebook laptop computer.for shopping, message boards, E-reader, and other computer stuff. Like Chrissy, I have no intention of sitting at a conventional desk, I like my comfort too much, so I made a computer work top for my recliners.
