I've Been Watching Toilet Cleaning Videos On You Tube

Seriously, I can't believe there would be that many. We have hard water in this town. Some good advice in some of the videos. Use vinegar, baking soda and even Coke. I'm going to give these a try.

One guy had some disgusting looking toilet that I think he used coffee grounds for the effect and another lady kept calling the build up "tartar" Now I'm really grossed out.

 

We have really hard water here too, ..I don't think the coke works...

 

In a man's world, a 3000 PSI pressure washer with a briggs and straton engine should do the trick.

 

Yes indeed Bobby...that would definitely spread that "tartar" all over the house!

 

I didn't watch the video but Ive tried everything for a hard water line that I couldn't remove ...then I used a scrub stick on it and it worked.

Forget what it's called but it's a grey colored stick....thought it would scratch the toilet but it didn't.

Even with that you had to scrub hard but at least it worked.

Isn't that the same thing that is used for feet? One should be careful which cleaning job to do first.

Lysol has a product my wife uses, comes in a black squeeze bottle, it definitely dissolves hard-water deposits with no scrubbing needed. As expected it's 10% Hydrochloric Acid; the deposits are invariably very basic alkalies, which the acide rapidly dissolves, turning them into dissolvable salts. Vinegar is weak. If stronger, it would work the same way; I think vinegar is usually ~ 3% Acetic Acid.

BTW, just how "hard" is your water? Have you had it tested? Ours has hardness 38 Grains, and 1700 parts per million Total Dissolved Solids, lots of stuff in it!

I wouldn't have a clue how hard it is @Frank Sanoica , the whole of the south of England has hard chalk water..

It's hard enough for us to continually have to remove the limescale on our tea kettle ( known simply as a kettle here)... and enough to ensure our washing machine and water tank gets destroyed by it every few years.

My o/h keeps promising to install an inline water softener but as he works long hours he never finds the time to do it ..
