From all your posts that I have read you are doing just fine @Bill Boggs doing the best you can. All any of us can do is take one day at a time and try to do our best too.
There are a couple of things with answering that question, @Babs Hunt . Bobby does totally different things when we go to the gym, so after we walk in the door, we don’t see each other again until we meet in the steam room just before taking our showers and going home. So it is not like he is a “workout buddy” for me. There are a group of people who regularly come and swim around the same time of day as we usually go to the gym, and so I have made some casual friends with some of the other ladies that I swim with. Mostly, we are all swimming so we do not visit a lot, except maybe a chat when we are in the hot tub. The same works for Bobby, he has made friends with some of the guys that work out in the same area that he does, and they also visit in the steam room or in the men’s lockers. The other side of that is that Bobby and I provide motivation to each other for actually going to the fitness center. Some days, one or the other might not feel like going, but since we both know that it is something that we do together, we always go. If it were just me, there would probably be more days that I didn’t go when I just didn’t feel like driving anywhere, and maybe the same thing for Bobby. But I would still go and I would enjoy going.
Maybe we should join some kind of health facility, to make out......errr......round-out.........meet some new friends; we have virtually none face to face. Frank
Genetics play a part but I agree physical activity is good. My weight has never really bothered me until now so I have joined the gym and I'm going there to walk on their new walk track which I really like. I started having some swelling on the inside of my R ankle after work on Sunday. I have a DR appointment. I could have gone in walk in today they said but it's better but will probably swell again after walking like it did yesterday. I'd like to find out what he thinks it is. As a kid we were actually not allowed to be very active. We were kept in the yard a lot, not allowed many friends and my mother always had a f***ing headache so we had to be quiet Watch out for the treadmills. Had a older patient who got paralyzed falling off of one of them. I'm going to keep doing the best I can at this. I'm working part time only right now and that helps as I don't have the negativity and stress at work. I also knew an athletic woman who had knee surgery at a young age and continued to have knee problems from running etc. It can happen to anyone. I think sports injuries are common.
After my ex left I started dating a real nice man here in Fresno, he was very active and had a treadmill in his bedroom and walked 5 miles every morning on it. Then my ex wanted to come back and I chose him, don't know why....anyway I quit dating Mike and then my ex left again for the last time and I called Mike. Didn't get an answer and left a message. Awhile later, his daughter called me and said that Mike died of a heart attack on his treadmill ...think he was about 58 then. Don't know if he had any hidden heart issues but that scared me.
It would seem that if the treadmill was dangerous for someone, then many other gym equipment and different forms of exercise might be too. I think that is part of the reason we are always warned to check with your Doctor to see if exercise (or what types) are okay for you to do if you have any health problems. My husband and I are going in March for our Wellness exams with our Primary Doctor and I'm going to ask her about my going to the Health Club and if she feels there are certain things I should not do over there. I wouldn't be scared to walk on a treadmill...because if one can't walk on that then they probably can't do regular walking either. Unless one is crazy enough to get on the treadmill for the first time and put it on the fastest speed instead of starting with the lowest and working their way up!
Oh wow @Chrissy Cross that's very sad. I know those treadmills will kind of make you want to power walk on them. Plus you can do the incline. I like this new walking track outdoors at the gym. I just walk at my own pace and don't worry about any speed. So sorry about that gentleman.
Thanks, he was truely a great guy, wish I would have continued my relationship with him but that's life. I also wonder if he would have died if I was maybe living with him? I could have called 911. Then I wonder if I did live with him and then he died....that'd be another loss of after my husband to deal with. I guess it wasn't meant to be either way.
