Yesterday a couple of friends and I went over to the Man made Olympic Centre where there's white water rafting to take part in. We only went as spectators to watch the rafters have fun, no competition... We were lucky it was so quiet, usually this place is packed to the rafters, but it's a holiday weekend here so lots of people will have gone away on trips..although today it will probably be much busier as it's a beutiful hot day Here are some photos from yesterday.. all the rafts have adults in, no children under 16 are permitted...
Sorry for the different sizes...the forum is accepting some that are not reduced and others which had to be reduced...don't know why
NICE pics @Holly Saunders looks like the lighting was really good for taking pictures and you did a fine job of doing just that.
Thank you Babs... the pity of it was that it was a blue cloudless sky when we left home but within 15 minutes of arriving there we had clouds so the pics didn't come out as well as I'd hoped,..but thank you anyway for enjoying them Today is cloudless, and really lovely and hot so today would have been a preferable day weatherwise.. for the rafting pics. I'm just cutting back the IVY in the garden...just came in for a cool down for a minute.. and then when hubs is finished tinkering with his car we're going out for late lunch.. Might get more pics somewhere today..
That is so interesting that you have an artificial whitewater “river” for people to use for this sport. there is a lot of this done here as well, but it is actually done in a real river and not in a manmade area, which I would think would be a whole lot safer. They can probably turn the water on and off at the water park, so if there was an accident of some kind, they could stop the rapids and rescue the person; whereas in an actual river, the person would be swept downstream, and it might take days before they located the person, and they would be dead by the time they were found. At least in the park where you went to watch, no one could actually be lost because it is all artificial. My daughter loves to go white water rafting, and when she can go somewhere and do this, she loves it. Here is a picture of her out having fun. She is the person sitting right at the front of the raft. (I didn’t take this picture, it was probably a friend in the raft ahead of her that took it. )
My son and DIL went white water rafting in Aspen, Colorado or was it Vail? Can't remember but I watched the 3 little ones for a long weekend and I was worried about them since it was their first time....they had a blast though! Also, there are a few artificial ones in the US... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_whitewater Something I would never want to do, along with bungee jumping.
I'm afraid of water like that. Streams, rivers, lakes, artificial white water I don't go near unless I could walk on it. I've never been able to do that so I stay away since in my fifties.
