I am aware of a high-pitched ringing or buzzing sometimes. I word it that way because I think it’s always there, only I don’t always acknowledge it. For example, I wasn’t aware that I was having a problem until I came across this thread, but now I am aware of it. So thanks. I worked in paper bag manufacturing plants, which were very loud, but I always used ear protection. The newer ambulances are much quieter inside but I also spent a lot of time on those that weren’t, as a paramedic, and sirens can be quite loud.
My "ringing" started a day after we left the Range after doing some target shooting. Now I have an excellent pair of electronic ear muffs that I wear to the Range. They REALLY work!
About 40 years ago,on a Halloween night, is my first problem wit my ears. Very long long story- short version- after at least five doctors and numerous tests it was diagnosed as a form of meningitis. In return there was a constant ringing in the ears- drove me nuts. It affected my walking even. It took years, of constant trying of different things to get rid of the noise .Even created my own mantra to help ease the discomfort. Then i started losing hearing in left ear, twenty years later, the other one. So now I wear hearing aid in each ear. Doctors say my hearing loss was not due to age. Reagarless, at some point, you will lose your hearing, to some degree, if you have ringing in the ears.
Sometimes I get that buzzing noise too @Ken Anderson but it only happens in my bedroom, usually with the TV on...right now my problem is earwax in my left ear. It was bothering me to the point last month where I couldn't hear...I messed around with it and it got better but stupid me mentioned it to my dr yesterday and they spent a half hr trying to get the wax which was in deep out...flushed my ear with what seemed like a bucket of water and then picked around. They finally gave up and told me to get the ear wax softener and use that...well I have been and I haven't irrigated yet...just bought an ear syringe today. Wish I would have kept my mouth shut, I was fine ...now I'm all stuffed up including my left nostril. I'm miserable. Ive never used an ear syringe and I'm afraid of getting water in my ear or doing something wrong.
I have a wax problem sometimes too. My doctor used to be able to clear it out perfectly but he says they are no longer allowed to do that, as there are apparently potential hazards involved that their insurance doesn't want to cover. Now all they will do is irrigate it and recommend that I do the same, and that sometimes makes it better, but not as well or for as long as before. You can reduce the likelihood of retaining water in your ear while irrigating if you add a little bit of hydrogen peroxide to the irrigation water. I don't measure but I use about 25% hydrogen peroxide. The wax softener and irrigation seems to be a partial and temporary fix. It doesn't get rid of a lot of the wax and it doesn't last very long.
Thanks ...I'll try that...I know they put some in the water yesterday at the drs. Does hydrogen peroxide go bad? I have some but it could be very old...maybe I'll just buy a new one.
Best of luck with a repair but Tinnitus is an old faithful. I worked with screaming diesels and ended up with a lifetime of the hissing, singing, thumping delights. Posh named, 'Habituation' which means getting used to the curse works eventually. If you have single sided hearing deterioration get it checked out. A few of us have Acoustic Neuromas. Sounds awful but they are benign, very slow growing and treatable.
you can read my thread , Blast From the Past for Me .... and learn about what may have caused my hearing loss, and ringing of the ears.
