I know this is yesterdays news. Literally. But it's going on and on in the media. Her tweet was bad. I have no idea what she had against this woman to make such a remark. I had never heard of Valerie Jarrett. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/roseanne-canceled-today-after-roseanne-barr-tweet-valerie-jarrett/ It's all over the U.S. news but there is a link anyway for those who may not get it in other countries, if even interested.
Ms. Jarrett was a policy wonk for the Obama Administration. She developed most of Obama's policies, both international and domestic, and even lived in the White House with the Obama family for a while. To look at her, I wouldn't know she had black heritage. I don't agree with her politically, but I don't think she is any worse than most Progressives, and probably smarter than most of them, too. At least she is way smarter than Roseanne Barr. I don't know what prompted the outburst, but Roseanne has always been a loose cannon, and she is not a Conservative of any kind. She is just a loony who happens to like Trump.
I have only seen a few episodes of the original Rosanne show and haven't seen the latest incarnation at all. Rosanne Barr is not a conservative, nor is she the strong Trump supporter that the media is making her out to be. I have noticed that ABC doesn't generally cancel shows when liberals say dumb stuff, though.
Yes, she's been crazy for a long time...remember the national anthem? I was surprised to hear she was a Trump supporter now because I always thought of her as liberal.
It's all over the UK media. Whatever anyone thinks of Roseanne Barr...or the woman Jarrett (never heard of her until now )... the people here who should be reviled are the production company ABC, who have caused dozens possibly a couple of hundred people to lose their jobs by pulling this show after a thoughtless remark by one member of the cast...not on the show but on social media and only her own opinion, not in any way reflecting the opinion of her cast members or production team,..perhaps racist depending on people's views, I accept that, but there's more to this than is meeting the eye with ABC. People like Joy Behar etc have made much worse comments about people and not lost either their own jobs or been the cause of the production crew and co-hosts to lose theirs ..I'm not defending Roseanne if she was being deliberately racist , I'm just appalled that ABC have treated a whole cast and crew abominably due to one person's thoughtless or damning tweets. Something stinks , I don't think we've heard the end of this..
That is true @Holly Saunders ....I'm sure her cast members aren't too happy. And yes, Joy Behar should have been taken off the air long ago.
"Barr's tweet about Jarrett said, "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." I don't see that that is any worse than someone calling President Trump an orangutan . I think the liberal Hollywood POS were just looking for an excuse to get rid of her. I've never liked her much but she is entitled to voice her opinion just like the rest of us. I understand that her show was the most popular new show this season. They might regret cancelling it.
I believe they said ABC lost $54 million in already-sold ad revenue by cancelling the show, but some of the cast members were complicit in getting the show cancelled. I really am not familiar with the show, as I cannot stand Roseanne, but I believe ABC quoted a "daughter's" (on the show) tweet when they cancelled it.
I'm thinking the daughter is Sara Gilbert...she's very liberal. She also has bit parts on Big Bang Theory. I think I read that the old Roseanne shows have been pulled also.
Oh I didn't hear about the old shows being pulled. I also didn't realize this would be so internationally reported. I've certainly heard the orangutan joke about Trump. Plus orange clown. I'm tired of political correctness. However this is a back history of depicting black people as primates and that is certainly based in hate, racism and isn't acceptable. If Roseanne Barr wanted to insult this woman for whatever reason, she should have tried another comparison. I do feel bad for others losing their job. It's around 200. I did find the show very funny and enjoyed watching it with not much on TV these days.
I wish everything didn't have to be political. A good show is a good show regardless of the politics or personal lives of the actors. I don't care about the politics of the actors or actresses so much that I wouldn't watch their shows if they were any good. I don't even care if the actor is a murderer or a rapist. Airplane doesn't suddenly turn to crap just because OJ kills his wife, and everyone shouldn't have to be deprived of Bill Cosby Show reruns because he raped women on his own time. You don't get much more liberal than Sean Penn but I still like several of his movies. I really liked the old Ellen Degeneres show before she came out as a lesbian, but I didn't quit liking it because she came out as a lesbian - I quit liking it because it quit being funny after that; rather than being a comedy, it turned into a gay rights promo. If Hollywood is going to call what they do art, then the product should stand on its own, rather than on the personal lives of those who contribute to it.
Yes she is also a permanent member of the Joy Behar crew on the Daytime talk show 'the view'' as well as being one of the producers on the now withdrawn updated version of the Roseanne show
