Hi, friends, Last night I slept in my Hammock for a few hours, until the High Desert Chill arrived. As the warm Summer rolls on, I'll be able to spend the whole night on the Hammock. It was great, lying under the clear Desert sky, observing the Constellations and watching a passenger jet soar across the sky. My hammock is self-supporting, on a tubular steel frame, and it allows me to turn around without falling out, unlike those old-fashioned hammocks that are slung between trees. I use my "My Pillow" instead of the little pad that came with the hammock. Bye, Harold
@Hal Pollner Indoors or outdoors? Ya got scorpions and such over there? I've seen 'em walking upside down on the ceiling, shocked me good, right above me as I woke up in bed. In Colorado, no I was not drinking! Frank
I often thought of getting my husband a hammock because he lives outdoors...but then I noticed he doesn't stay still outside long enough so that he would enjoy a hammock. He is always working on one project or another and only sits long enough to have a drink and a smokey treat. I think buying a swing would be a better idea and then I could enjoy it and he could sit down with sometimes.
OUTDOORS of course, Frank! I can't see the constellations very well from inside my house! The only scorpion I saw was the constellation Scorpio, which has the huge alpha star Antares, which is so vast it could contain most of our Solar System within it! Hal
That looks doable, and I could probably get in and out of one of those. What I think of, when I think of a hammock though, is something like this. These were great when I was younger but, even then, I had trouble getting in and out of them. They were very comfortable once I was safely in it, though. By the way, since we don't use them often, when you choose the thumbnail option, as above, to see the picture, just click on it.
Using those old rigs that you have to tie between 2 trees is way too much bother, AND they're unstable! Mine is as stable as a bed, and is 3 ft. wide and over 6 ft. long, and much flatter than the traditional hammock....not like lying in a bag! H.P.
At about the 2:30 mark, a REAL hammock will make its appearance. Well, maybe not real in the conventional sense but most certainly REALly entertaining.
Thing is, some of us, once laying inside the hammock, which definitely might not be that easy to get into, it could also definitely be hard getting out of. Example (this happened yesterday at our apartment complex pool). Management here set up a hammock in our pool area. Only people I've seen using it would be young enough to be our grandkids. Anyway, wife and I took a short swim and afterwards, she was checking out the hammock. I told her "let me see if I can get in". The hammock sure didn't stay still for me, but was finally able to get in. It wasn't very comfortable and I decided, "nope, this isn't for us". Was able to set up with my legs over the side, BUT, there was no way I could get out without some help. With the hammock swaying a little, I'd have to pull all of my 230 lbs "up and stand up". Wasn't going to happen! My wife was able to assist me by pulling me out with both of her hands/arms. She then looked at me and said "nope, no way for me either". This is why I say, depending on how heavy or light a person is, using a hammock just isn't going to happen. And, as for a Senior, well...……..
A fellow some years ago was bragging the everything he did was always the hard way. He didn’t use lifts or dollies to move things, he physically picked them up. He didn’t use wrenches or sockets for nuts and bolts, he pried them off with his fingers. “Well, how about making love” asked one gentleman to which the braggart replied, “that too. Standing up on one leg and in a hammock”!
Back in my younger days I had two hammocks. One in my back yard under the shade of a large tree which I sometime used on weekends. It was a wider framed-in job; the other, a tree to tree hammock I took camping with me. I didn't use them much. My back then roommate liked them more than I did and more or less took possession. Never had a desire to own another after those went by the wayside. I think we gave them to somebody and moved into lounge chairs. They are a great addition to a back yard if you enjoy them if you have room and a couple of trees spaced just so.
