I'm about 4 hrs from Lake Tahoe, @Frank Sanoica ..went once with my ex for a few days. I know quite a few couples that have places in Tahoe....friends of my daughter.
@Chrissy Cross I had forgotten Fresno is as far north as it is. We also drove to Pyramid Lake once, still farther north, I believe, a lot of Tribal Reservation land up there. Frank
A lot of tribal reservation land not far from me, all the casinos are there. They even have their own police there.
Speaking of California drought....I never thought I'd say I'm sick of all the rain we're having but I am sick of it. The drought has to be over this year especially after the melt off in the spring. I don't remember it raining this much in the winter since I moved here in 2003.
The past few days have allowed pleasant sleeping in my Hammock under High Desert skies. Now I can stay out until dawn, with the temp in the 70's. Before the heat spell, I had to cut it short when the temp fell into the 60's and I had to return to my bedroom. Hal (It's 108 now, just past noon.)
We've got 90 plus temps, and that's terrible enough because we have no AC..only fans.. we've been like it now for weeks.. I sleep in the nuddy with not even a top sheet on and ceiling fan on and still am soaked.. I seriously considered sleeping in the garden last night...
Temps are back into the 60s here now. Yesterday was our last day of 80+ degree temps for a while--perhaps till next year. It has clouded over and is spittin' rain with the cold front off Siberia and the Arctic. We'll see what happens next week.
@Hal Pollner Altitude works on your side! Here at 550 ft., we've had 115+ degree days for 3 weeks or more. Not cool at night either, high 80s, low 90s. As I said though, the Monsoon is here, and things are a'changing.........I wonder if the mountains separating your central valleys from here limit monsoonal activity there? Or do you get it also? @Ken Anderson Believe it or not, the temps daily in Flagstaff, AZ have been identical to yours.......Flag. is 180 miles east of us! Imagine you know the altitude/temperature thing, having lived out West, but just in case some folks don't...... my nephew states Flag has seen snowfall in June on rare occasions! Frank
Frank, because of our geographical location, our Monsoons are light and brief...just long and heavy enough to cause minor flash floods in the arroyos and washes. Our "rainy " season is short also. (Posted are a book of the High Desert and our local Newspaper, the conservative Daily Press.) Hal
Still much better than 5 days of sub freezing weather and shoveling snow that I used to live with for most of my life. My house, car and everyplace indoors I go to is air conditioned very well. I keep my thermostat at 79 degrees when it is 100 outside and we are still sometimes too cold and have to turn it up higher. I rather have heat than cold so I never complain and too old to play outdoors anymore.
