"Carole King (born Carol Joan Klein, February 9, 1942) is the most successful female songwriter of the last half of the 20th century in the USA, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1999. King's career began in the 1960's when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists." Do you have a favorite Carole King song?
I'm a huge James Taylor fan and Carol of course was his partner in so many songs.... I can't think of a CK song I don't like... This is my favourite...but I prefer JT duetting with her on this...
@Nancy Hart I believe Carole King got together from time to time with Neil Sadaka, both writing music and singing. If I'm not mistaken, Sadaka's hit "Carole" was written as a tribute to her. Dunno anything else, except Sadaka wrote over 100 songs which charted on Billboard. Frank
I frequently listen to the 'Tapestry' album. Every song on it is a joy. If I had to name one song that I really enjoy her singing, it would be 'Up On The Roof'.
Up On The Roof .is one of my favorite songs. I found a very early video of it by James Taylor, live, just the guitar, and none of his usual improvisations. It was beautiful, but the video got removed. {sigh} Wish I had tried to download it. Still hoping to find it some day.
In this interview, Carole talks about her childhood, her parents loving support of her and her music and the difficulties of being on the road as a young mother.
