I'm a fan of Glenn Miller and today my song of choice to go running through my head all day is Kalamazoo (don't they add another O to zoo ?) Anyhoo - does this place exist ? If so - where is it ? Have you ever been there ? ………………………..
It's in Michigan...my son's sister in law and mother in law live there now. Have for a few years. They used to live in St Charles, Illinois but a job transfer for her husband had them moving. It's about a 5 hr drive from my son's house in Illinois. Where they used to live was about a 5 hr drive also so didn't make a difference to my DIL when visiting her family Think it's a tad colder though in Michigan.
@Bill Boggs - Ah no, that won't do Bill We can all look things up, but then what would be the point of a forum if we don't communicate I think my forum days are numbered
I've been there, as one of my wife's aunts once lived there, but I remember nothing notable about the city.
Don't know anything about the city of Kalamazoo, Patsy, but love the song, and can't resist posting it. . (Tex Beneke singing starts around 1:00) Tex Beneke (age 70) and Marion Hutton, reunited in 1984
@Patsy Faye While building a machine for Dana Corp. in Indiana, we had many parts fabricated by a machine shop in Kalamazoo. I travelled there once from my workplace in Chicago, picked up the parts, and drove on to Churubusco, Indiana. Didn't get to see much, or learn much, about Kalamazoo, but it seemed like a nice place. I recall my folks, seeking a retirement area, looking at property near there bordering a preserve named Allegan National Forest. Frank
I rarely post on these forums but when i saw Kalamazoo, i got curious..!! My sister and hubby lived in Kalamazoo for about 10 yrs. but they actually just moved to Newark, Ohio last year . we plan to go see them some time next month. I also have a very old friend(90's)who has lived in Plainwell, Mi. all her life, not far from Kalamazoo.. so i got to see her as well... Hubby and and i went to Kalamazoo at that time for my sister's birthday and that was 5yrs ago ! .. Kalamazoo is a nice small town .. And my son and his family still live in northern Illinois.
@Louise Williams Northern Illinois can mean the Chicago area, though there are nice towns and rural areas also in Northern Illinois, such as the "Chain of Lakes". I was born in, and lived in, Northern Illinois for 30 years. Have not regretted leaving there, especially in view of the taxes imposed: our then-50 year old brick bungalow was taxed at under $600 when we left; today, this 90+ year old relic is taxed at 10 times that amount. I just could not afford to live there in retirement. Frank
