Thanks @Ken Anderson for the lesson in how SS numbers work. My first real job, I worked in a technical library for the US Army, and I was impressed with this "trick" that the librarian could do - if you told her your SSN, she would tell you where you were born. I was only 16 at the time, and was convinced that she had memorized all the numbers, but then she told me that the first 3 digits gave her the geographic information. Still pretty impressive that she had memorized all the possibilities.

I like this early picture of a "socially secure" older citizen.

Getting your SS card was a real "Senior Moment"!;)

"Social Security numbers were grouped by the first three digits of the number (called the area number) and assigned geographically starting in the northeast and moving across the country to the northwest. But if you look closely at the distribution pattern you will see an apparent anomaly. The lowest area numbers are assigned to New Hampshire, rather than to Maine, even though Maine in the most northeasterly of the states.

This was apparently done so that SSN 001-01-0001 could be given to New Hampshire's favorite son, Social Security Board Chairman John G. Winant (Winant was the former three-time Governor of New Hampshire). Chairman Winant declined to have the SSN registered to him. Then it was offered to the Federal Bureau of Old Age Benefits' Regional Representative of the Boston Region, John Campbell, who likewise declined. It was finally decided not to offer this SSN as a token of esteem but instead to issue it to the first applicant from New Hampshire".

I'd like to point out the caption at the bottom that says it is "insurance protection" not a right or a guarantee. We need reform in SS so that people who have other significant income can't collect SS too. I know the words "Social Security Reform" are likely to get me tarred and feathered, but we really need to start working on it now, before it collapses completely. Just my humble opinion.

I went to see the doctor about my amnesia the other day. He told me to forget about it.

I had a bad senior moment this morning, the worst one I can recall
I was concerned at first - then when I told Fabs, I cried with laughter
Now, I'm concerned again - they can unnerve you, but I just have times when I can't
seem to focus, then it subsides and I'm OK
Its just another thing we have to put up with

Know what you mean, think we all have them....I probably get more anxious than you though because I live alone and everything is a bit harder and scarier.

Well, here's one....just read on FB about an older lady (friend on FB) that did 4 loads of laundry before she realized she had used Fabric softener instead of laundry detergent in all the loads.

Now that is a pain in the butt!!

She'll have to redo it all!
