So, Hal........ if this is for the lady drivers......what should the men drivers do if they skid on a slippery road , if not steer into the skid like we women should do ?
Don’t EVEN look at me for guidance Hal. Figuratively speaking, your foot is indeed firmly planted in your upper most orifice and there’s nothing in my toolbox that can ply it out.
I perceive Hal's post as not at all intended to imply women are poor drivers, that they need training, or that he feels them inadequate as drivers, at all. I see it all as an honest, good-intentioned piece of information aimed at helping women understand the skidding phenomenon better. If you polled 100 men and 100 women, do you really think equal numbers would answer correctly when asked about steering while in a skidding condition? Frank
OMG!!! I'll have you know I'm a better driver than my husband..and he's a damn good driver. WE live in a country where the roads are no wider that your sidewalks, where the roads are windy and can barely get 2 cars going in opposite directions and no street llights in the country roads... ... where we have snow and ice 4 months of the year sometimes, and rain more often than that. Where we have lots of skid risks, in bendy, windy hills.. and fog...and floods... Frank and Hal, I bet most women could out drive the both of you...
From reading back Frank, I believe that most of the posts were just having a bit of fun with the OP rather than an attempt to hang ‘em high. That said, perhaps back in the 50’s when women really started hitting the driver’s seat, there might have been some validity to what you’re saying @Frank Sanoica. But since then, driving schools, and the fact that most high schools have a driver’s ed course have taken the place of haphazard one-on-one teaching. The mechanical workings of a vehicle coupled with accident prevention and defensive driving is taught before the students even get behind the steering wheel. Add the schools to the fact that most people who are locked into adverse climates pretty much learn the hand’s on aspects of defensive driving fairly quickly in life. It’s a given that the folks on this forum are indeed older and might not have learned the skidding technique when they were younger but judging from the response thus far, the ladies are pretty much in tune with what the men know about it. To be sure though, the essence of the OP is a healthy piece of advice for both men and women since slicker roads are on the menu starting later this month for most of the northerners here.
