For some reason, I'm having an incredibly difficult time loading and posting here today. My other sites seem to be o.k., so apparently it's not my computer. I don't know if there's anything I can do to fix the issue. I'm on Chrome. If anyone's aware of something I can do to tweak settings, etc., please let me know. I had messages not showing as posted, but then they eventually showed up, so I ended up having to delete a repeat post.
I'm experiencing the same thing. I thought it was on my end, but after seeing your post, I think it might be something on the forum. I, too, tried to post - I hit the "Post Reply" button and it looked like it was going through the motions, but then came back without having posted it. So I hit "Post reply" again and again it took a long time, the little bars at the top right hand corner that move to show that it's doing something stopped and the post still wasn't added. (Does that make sense). Any insight would be appreciated.
There are a lot of things that can lead to a site loading slowly, and not all of them are related to the site. There could be a slowdown anywhere in the Internet pathway between your computer and the one that this site is hosted on, which wouldn't necessarily affect other sites you visit because they will take different pathways. I don't see anything in any of the metrics that indicate a problem with the server so I don't know.
I'm actually having the same issue - all the other sites are loading no problem, but I'm having some issues with this one, I'm on Chrome also, maybe it's a browser issue? It's quite annoying, since I was looking forward to doing some posting, but it's taking forever. I don't know much about computer pathways but hopefully the issue will just resolve on it's own? Edit: Nevermind, it seems to be faster now... hope nobody else is still having problems.
Oh, I'm not saying that there were no issues, only that these things tend to be sporadic and unpredictable, and that there is no button that I can push to make it faster. I knew that it wasn't slow for everyone because it wasn't slow for me, so it's usually just a matter of waiting for it to clear up.
I have had no particular problem with this site. Any problems I have are directly related to my computer which I have not taken in for repair yet. @Ken Anderson , I noticed that the conversation gadget is gone now.
Bump: Oct 12, 2018 Is anyone else noticing slowdowns in the evenings lately? For me it usually starts around 8pm (tonight at 7pm) and lasts until about midnight, except for spurts when everything goes normally. It started about 5 or 6 days ago, as I recall. Maybe 30 secs just to load a page. I usually play solitaire on another window while waiting. My solitaire skills have improved considerably.
I've been driving all day, but it seems to be working okay for me since I got unpacked here, about 7:30 pm EST.
Dunno. Just like we seniors, there are some bad days, good days and great days. Most of my problems dealing with slow loading comes from the Dell and Windows 10. My IPad almost always loads pretty fast so no, not really any difference here.
This may or may not be relate, but in my contract or by later notification, AT&T/Direct tv has notified or I have been led to believe, can or do slow down low paying members in favor of customers who go for premium Channels. I do think some were sued in a court of law due to this slowdown and lost. Periodicly in prime time my internet speed is somewhat slow until news time in the evenings and many times on weekends. It could be I may have my worlds mixed up.
Yes I noticed it several days ago..got me quite irritated at times, and some of the time it's so slow to load that I shut the forum off and restart again.. doesn't help the slowness but it prevents me from slamming the computer into a wall..lol.. Doesn't happen anywhere else...
Right after I posted that message, everything went back to normal, and it didn't slow down last night either. I knew that would happen. Not many folks on here in the evenings (E.S.T.), so few would have noticed.
Perhaps @Ken Anderson might be able to enlighten us as to the loading procedure and precedence that takes place. Maybe in the U.K. the vowels load a little more slowly than the consonants.
