Is anyone having memory issues? I don't mean going upstairs and forgetting what you went up for, or where you put the keys, I mean memory problems that are more concerning . I am... to the point that having a face to face conversation is beginning to embarrass me because I can't remember words. ..simple every day words I've used all my life. I'm losing the ability to annunciate .. Totally unable to remember if I've just had a cup of tea or not... or taken my meds.. I can see something on tv..or have a neighbour or friend tell me something , but when I go to relate it to my husband just a few hours later , I've forgotten half of it... I'm also finding that I'm reading words wrongly sometimes... words again I've known all my life. This morning I had an email offering me a discount at texaco... I read it and thought instantly this must be something American. because I'd never heard of Tex-Aco...took me a minute to realise it was Texaco... Anyway the latter is less of a concern than the former... anyone else having a similar problem. ?
@Holly Saunders ..um no - thank goodness. Holly I really think you need to see your doctor hon. This goes a bit deeper than forgetting your car keys. I know it is scary, you must not put this off. It could be a combination of things,it is not always BIg AL..but you need to be checked out. You might try keeping a log- of your meals and medicine times. Let someone always know where you are going. Please keep us posted and get you hubby and a friend to help you out !
Holly hope you are not taking any statin drugs as the FDA said the [side] effects are dementia. Also some Alzheimer's research found that a large dose of vitamin E brought back memory in Alzheimer patients. Hope it is not serious and just a bad day. Everyone here cares and has the fear of the same problem. Good luck
One of the things that causes Alzheimer’s is that it is a form of diabetes that affects the brain, and so many people being on statin drugs that remove cholesterol has made things worse. Having a low carb/ketogenic diet is supposed to help, especially when it is ketogenic, because the brain is starving for fuel, and it can burn ketones. You might want to do some research and see if just a diet change can help you. I was having a lot of trouble remembering things, and would have to try and pantomime the word while Bobby guessed what I was trying to say to him. After I started the ketogenic diet and taking coconut oil, my memory has improved. I still forget things, but no where nearly as much as I was doing for a while. Another possibility could be MS. Are you having any kind of balance problems ? Robin has MS, and she struggles with memory loss really bad. I also have that issue with words, mainly spelling them. The simple things (there, their, they’re) I will write the wrong one and not notice it. I have no idea why I have started doing this, and I try to proofread my posts.
I have trouble remembering something I watched last week ...it takes awhile and I have to think really hard about a plot of a movie. Sometimes I'll see an unknown actor and recall seeing him in something else recently but for the life of me I can't remember where. Things like that....
Your mind seems sharp as ever in the "games" @Holly Saunders and some games rely largely on your memory.
Thank you folks for all your input. I'm not on statins Martin, but thanks for letting me know, , and Yvonne funny that you should mention the MS because my brother has MS... but I do have a neurological issue going on in my head , ear and throat, so as part of their search for the cause, I was given an MRI scan about 6 weeks ago.. unbeknown to me until I was given the results they were also searching for any signs of PD or MS both of which were clear. Thank God, because my father died from the effects of PD, and as I say, my brother has had MS for many years.. so we can rule that out as a cause. I have no issues with spelling or writing... @Gloria Mitchell , aside from the memory problems, I've also been having pressure behind my lefteye..I've seen an ophthalmologist who after 6 months on the waiting list and just a 5 minute basic eye test, announced I have ''probably'' dry eye... and prescribed eye drops. Since then the pressure, and the headaches have become much more severe...but I'm still seeing my Maxilofacial consultant who have diagnosed Glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and prescribed meds for that.. but the memory loss has been going on for well over a year and getting progressively worse , so I can't even blame the meds which I've only been taking since July. Anyway today has been a particularly bad day for pain in my head, so I made an appointment to see my GP..we have to wait a minimum of 3 weeks so I can't see anyone until the 8th of November, .. ..so we'll see what occurs then.. Chrissy, I wish it was as simple as not remembering the name of an actor... unfortunately it's not..
Yes I did think that CC... but of course words are memories from a long time ago... and it's my short term memory that's affected...plus I'm deliberately playing as many word games and quizzes I can..always have in fact, to try and keep my mind sharp For example, and this is just one of many similar examples..my husband will buy me something (.. he will mention that we went to such and such a place and bought me this..and I have absolutely no memory of it... the look of horror on his face tells a story, and I know then I've done it again.. Another example.. There's a TV show which used to be on in the 90's... It was my favourite show..I loved it, I've watched so many re-runs over the years I swear I could tell you the script word for word. I haven't watched it for about 2 years now, and it's re-running again, so I've been watching it.. and it's like I'm watching a whole new show. I don't remember most of it.... In one way it's fabulous cuz I don't remember it, and of course the flipside is that it's terrifying because I DON'T remember it..
I do have high eye pressure which is controlled by eye drops @Holly Saunders and my eyes do feel dry sometimes but that's just looking at my iPad too much. I don't feel pressure or pain with my eye problem though....only way I knew that I had a problem was an eye exam a few years ago....pressure was about 23 or so. Was referred to an opthamologist and I get my pressure checked checked every 3-4 months. With the prescription eye drops my pressure is Normal. So far my field of vision is perfect so no glaucoma and that's why I do the drops.
My vision is fine CC...I have my eyes checked regularly , and apart from my usual prescription there's no problems with my eyes.. The pressure behind my eye is extremely painful some days (like today) ,,and also wakes me from a deep sleep , it feels like someone has their thumb constantly pressed into my eye..
I'll forget a show but once I start watching it, I remember. My memory has to be jogged by something.... once it is...I'm ok.
I'd be a basket case...but then I still worry about it after the dr says there's nothing to worry about.
