let me tell you the story of this song Bob. Charlie had a couple of good Christian friends who he used to visit often. After a time the wife died and left the old man alone, and Charlie would go and visit him at home, and ask him how he was. the old man would always say he was well, but Charlie could always see that his friend was struggling with lots of pain due to severe arthritis... and ultimately after a time he could no longer cope alone, and was taken to live in a nursing home! Afterwards Charlie would often walk down his friends' street and past his home and remember them both with great affection, and one day he decided to write this song in the way he imagined his friend would have remembered his late wife and his home...
