He gives pretty good speeches, but they are seldom or never covered in their entirety. The MSM takes excerpts out and tries to make them fit the agenda. I find it rather sad.
Nancy did everything she could do to distract the public from paying attention but I think it was mostly for naught. To me, it was one of the most unifying speeches made by any president I have observed but there are some who are still picking it apart in an attempt to cast a bad light on it. According to a couple of snap polls, 76% of the American public approved of the speech. ( CNN & CBS snap)
The thing I don't like to see in a Presidential speech before the full Congress is the Democrats sitting with no emotion while the Republicans cheer and present a standing ovation when Trump makes a bold, patriotic statement. I thought the speech was Heroic! Hal
The thing I don't like to see in a Presidential speech before the full Congress is Republican congressman, Joe Wilson, interrupting a speech by U.S. President Barack Obama's SOTU by shouting "You lie!" I was watching an HBO drama, True Detective (which is GREAT, btw) and missed over half an hour of the speech. When I turned to the speech, the first thing I saw was BOTH HOUSES of BOTH PARTIES standing and cheering something said. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone or Bizarro World. The Constitution was written to protect the Balance of Power, not any President's ascension to the throne. Only in a dictatorship will you find everyone cheering all the time, will you find no protected opposition. Just show more self-control than the uncivilized, belligerent Mr. Wilson. The Democrats may not have been enthused at all moments, but no one was churlish or rude.
I expect nothing less from you. What if someone last night shouted that out? Would your reply be 's/he was wrong' or would you have more to say than just a simple shrug?
I do have to agree with you @Lulu Moppet. The president already knows that when he brings up controversial subjects during his SOTU address that there are going to be those who sit and those who stand. During his speech, no matter the president, it’s not a time for debate but a time when the president can say what he has to say without interruption beyond that of the numerous standing ovations that every president gets. When President Trump brought up socialism, he knew that Bernie and Cortez were going to scowl and when he brought up abortion he knew that at least 1/4 of the audience was going to remain seated. All in all, the president had something for everyone but just like in the best restaurant a person can find, not everyone is going to be pleased at all times with the fare that is presented.
I believe it was when D Trump said that the U.S. would never be a socialist country that she felt obligated to stand with the other ladies but she didn’t clap. Just as a side bar, did anyone notice that Cortez was the only lady dressed in a cocktail dress rather than the suit coats or sweaters that the others were wearing? Just a poor girl from the Bronx trying to make it in the big city.
I voted for Trump- ok it was not like I had a choice really. However, thinking he could and would change things-he got my vote. Not sorry really, but do think he lacks the professionalism needed in the government atmosphere. Did not watch the speech. Think Nancy's little handy thingy was a bit overrated and, shows also her lack of professional behavior.
"Just as a side bar, did anyone notice that Cortez was the only lady dressed in a cocktail dress rather than the suit coats or sweaters that the others were wearing?" Really, Bobby, I think you're getting a bit hysterical. Put your eyes back in your skull, LOL. Cortez on right. Don't hate her 'cause she's beautiful. She's young & gorgeous, a blessing bestowed upon her. A feedbag would look like a cocktail dress on her. Notice her PANTS.
