Poor baby! Glad he's okay...even though they like to go through your garbage cans and make a mess. Doesn't happen in Fresno but have lived where it has. I remember my dad having to put a heavy brick on our cans when I was growing up in Pittsburgh. They could easily lift the lid.
I think their habit of washing their food before eating it (if water is nearby) is just marvelous! Hal
A raccoon helped me put up Christmas lights on the porch a couple of years ago (just kidding). Seriously though, one got inside the screened porch through the cat door. I wouldn't have noticed except it left a present on the floor, and then I found its paw prints while putting up the lights up near the ceiling. I kind of like raccoons and possums. Not as destructive as squirrels. (not my picture)
What happens when you start feeding raccoons. They all look very plump. (Video is long, but you can get the picture in the first 3-4 minutes.)
Racoons are very 'cute'. But they carry rabies and other diseases. At this stage of engagement, I would put the food down before evening and watch from the windows. They kill and rip apart my chickens. They are capable of biting people as well. JMHO
