We don't celebrate Valentines' day usually in any traditional manner, but for the first time I can remember hubs had some time off work, and Valentines was a perfect sunny day so we took a trip to East London to take act like tourists and ''see the sights''..something we rarely do living just 20 miles from the centre of the Capital It was a really great day to go because not only did it look like a summers' day there was hardly any tourists around, and so we made a visit to the Millennium Dome, took a trip on the Cable cars across the Thames and back again, and then too a boat ride which passes many Iconic tourist sites, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, London bridge, Borough market ( a typical ye old London style food market) ..This is a different area to theatre land which is in the West End.. The cable cars ''fly'' 300 feet above the Thames and the millennium dome, and we got a car to ourselves..and I took some pictures through the Glass..(can't open windows for obvious reasons ) the boat ride was fantastic.. it's a commuter boat which meant we didn't have to mess around with the tube (subway) or buses to get to the other side of the Thames..20 minute ride, complete with Bar I though you al might like to share in our afternoon and see a typical day in east London pre tourist season
I loved this pontoon in the middle of the docks area.. had to use full zoom on it from the cable car..
Back of my head... To travel to and home again from east London from we have to go by Train or Tube... so I thought you all might like to see inside one of our tube stations.. most tube stations are mobbed but this one near the Dome at this time of year is very quiet... Inside the tube trains... ..and the tubes trains... We travelled outside of Rush hour so it looks very quiet otherwise it would have been so crowded it would have been almost impossible to take pictures
ready to board the boat... Onboard ..this is the interior with the bar...but we stayed out on deck to get some touristy pics..
Tower of London.. Very quiet London bridge middle of the day in February... ...sorry got a bit carried away...got loads more pics of the dome etc which I'll post another time..but the last one for now is where we had lunch... up on the balcony in a pub next to London bridge...
Thanks @Nancy Hart & @Betty Jones ...it was a fab afternoon.. . It's funny, I've been there so many times for work etc..and as a 'local' you never really see it through a tourists eyes,..so it was nice to enjoy it like . Betty the cable car is up 300 feet.. but it feels really safe! The Cable cars I've been on in Spain near where my daughter lives, have open windows so they're a little more scary... but I still liked them...
Great Snaps and it was a lovely day for Feb. You must do the river trip from Westminster Pier to Hampton Court in the Summer, you can get the train back or return with the boat
Yikes no I'd not want to do it with all the tourists around Tom, can you imagine the hussle and bustle and the queues... ? hence the reason for taking the opportunity on a glorious sunny feb day...
