I prefer the thicker crusts and, more importantly, I prefer the ones with a bottom crust, which most of the ones in the supermarket don't have anymore. They also tend to be more liquid on the inside than they used to be. There are some good ones, though. Similar to pot pies are the meat pies that my mom used to make. They had all the same stuff that you'd expect in a pot pie but they were made in larger, rectangular pans, and tasted a lot better. I haven't been able to duplicate that.
Love it. Lived on chicken pot pies at the K&W Cafeteria in Raleigh, NC, for 2 years back in the 70's. It was their specialty. Cheap, good and filling. The place still looks the same.
I used to take them to work once in a while (the frozen ones) and heat them in the microwave as a quit lunch. My spouse doesn't eat wheat any more, so no regular pies of any kind here any more.
I guess if there are no flour crusts, but that is why I said no regular pies. She can't eat wheat or rice, and is better off if she has no grains at all.
We use to buy pot pies quite often at the grocery store, then we started noticing just how much sodium was in them. Just like tv dinners...…..way to much! But, my wife loves the pot pies at KFC.
If you don't mind paying a lot, Marie Callender's are really good pot pies. Also loaded with calories. The 410 is misleading. It's per cup. These are about 2 cups worth. Good to share. Too much for one.
We both really enjoy pot pies as well, but those little tiny ones from the grocery stores just are not worth heating the oven up for, and the larger ones are expensive. When we have turkey (or even left over chicken ), then I will often make a pot pie for us. Since we usually eat pretty low-carb, I use some regular flour, and some almond flour, with added flax, chia, and psyllium , which allows us to have a flavorful thick crust, and still not have all of that worthless white flour. I can add lots of fresh or frozen veggies, and it ends up being a pot pie with a lot of good substance to it, plus it is made in the square cake pan, so we always have plenty for leftovers.
I like Chicken Pot Pies, especially the kind with a thick crust all around. This way you get your Bread along with your Chicken and Vegetables. Hal
K&W does have some delicious food, doesn't it? Have you tried their baked spaghetti along with the seven layer salad? OMG!
I love all kinds of pot pies, chicken, beef, etc. I'm a sucker for pie crust. I seldom buy them but now I want one!
This thread prompted me to order one at a restaurant, but I was disappointed. Too much water, not enough meat.
Yeah, I like them but haven't had one in years. When grocery shopping I say to the wife, "Want to try one of those pot pies?" She'd say, no I can make them better than those, but she never does.
My wife buys only Marie Callender's pot pies because they're the best and they're only $5.99 for 2 pies. Hal
