I like thick crust all around; it provides more Carbohydrates and more Calories! That's what a pot pie is all about...food that's FILLING, man! Hal
We use to have Banquet pot pies a lot during my childhood days a quick fix for Mom I'm sure. Chicken was my favorite and the crust top and bottom @Ken Anderson was delicious. Later years I discovered the MSG (monosodium glutamate) was a trigger to awful headaches so I had to stop and read the packages. KFC's pot pies were the best that I've eaten at restaurants and Marie Callendars in the stores.
My wife wasn't to keen on flour pie crusts so she experimented with blanched almond flour. Pre baking the crust to golden brown she makes all kinds of pies. I don't miss the flour based crusts.
We call them Meat pies here..Not Pot pies.... and yes I like them. I had 2 small steak ones just the other night...
My wife can tolerate almond flour when it is used in baking, but the doctors counsel against it as it may cause an anaphylactic reaction in those with Oral Food Allergy. Her diet is quite restrictive, but she is so much healthier when she is on it.
yes steak and ale pies widely available here to buy, and very popular as a pub lunch .... my mum used to make her pies with just a puff pasty top. I don't eat enough pies to make my own, so when I have one they're either store bought or eaten in the pub..
I made chicken pot pie again the other night,as it seemed fitting since was very cold outside again. You know you have done good when hubby is smiling even the next morning...when asked why.. cause there is enough of that pie left for my lunch, ti was so good
As I mentioned in the similar thread that I linked to earlier, my mom - and others in my extended family - made something called a meat pie that was similar in content, but which tasted entirely different than pot pies. I like pot pies, but the meat pies were even better.
Agree. Plus in my experience, meat pies don't have as much 'sauce' as a pot pie. I have GOT to go to the store.
