I don't play poker, but I enjoy watching a good game.

When a player announces "I've got a full house: Jacks full of Sevens."

Does he mean three Jacks and a pair of Sevens, or three Sevens and a pair of Jacks?

I play Texas Holdem poker... love the game

Americans tend to say A Boat which is a full house

A hand with 3 Jacks and 2 sevens. is a full house

Beats a hand with 3 sevens and 2 jacks which is also a full house...

Link 11 minutes but shows suck outs on full houses.

" Jacks full of Sevens ".

I'm going to go with 3 sevens and 2 Jacks; this is the way I heard it in Stud Poker.

As a side note, ' The Cincinnati Kid' starring Steve McQueen, is the best poker movie ever made...:)

Another poker term which might offend is

    A Gay Waiter...which is a hand with a Queen and 3 of a kind.

A Queen means homosexual and 3 of a kind is also called a tray.

Hence the name a Gay Waiter

Well, @Hal Pollner if I played poker I would say three sevens and a pair of Jacks but I would prefer it the other way for a winning hand.

You're all missing the premise of my question!

What does a the expression "FULL OF"mean?

    @Hal Pollner
I have never heard it called out as "full of". Everywhere I've played as well as watched, used the term "Full House: Jacks OVER Sevens". Or, Sevens over Jacks, 3 sevens, 2 jacks.

    Me too, Frank!

But I've heard this "Full Of" in draw poker games played in episodes of M*A*S*H.

A full house, also known as a full boat or a boat (and originally called a full hand), is a hand that contains three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank, such as 3♣ 3♠ 3♦ 6♣ 6♥ (a "full house, threes over sixes" or "threes full of sixes" or "threes full")It ranks below four of a kind and above a flush.

    OK

To make sense of this statement.

Its Jacks Full meaning 3 Jacks.( I have 3 Jacks )

Normaly that would all that would be said.

In Texas Holdem because you only get dealt two cards and five cards are dealt to the board so it happens that two players can both have a house not so in Stud and Draw poker

    This might happen.

You call a player and he turns over a boat showing 3 sevens and 2 jacks

If the other player had 3 jacks and any other pair would reply "Jacks full "Over With OF" what ever the Pair is even if its 2s

So Jacks FULL beats Sevens FULL irrelevant what ever the pair cards are

Curiously, here in Southern Nevada the casinos deal "3-card Poker", all players play against the Dealer alone. What gave me pause to think, was the fact that they rank a Straight higher than a Flush!
