I've always equated American's Public Opinion of their leadership to that of the motion of a very slow, but large, pendulum. It's extremes of travel are only rarely reached, those two points representing total delight and total dissatisfaction. Indeed, it would seem we are almost to that farthest point of travel.......... Time was, a great majority of Americans would likely have been too ashamed of themselves to speak of Washington as a "swamp". Today, such unprecedented exclaim is commonplace, even being touted by Washington itself! Does that fact not support the conclusion that American's attitudes have reached a remarkable turning point? Frank
@Bill Boggs Ah, no need for apology! I read twice your post, before deciding you meant "gist" (direction, or content), rather than "jest". I wasn't funnin'! Frank
Time was the majority of Americans didn't know that Washington was a swamp. We only knew what the news media told us and the news media only told us what the politicians told them to tell us. With the coming of the internet, all that has changed. We can see for ourselves what the politicians say, not what they want us to think they said.
Actually, I misspelled the word I intended. I didn't think you were funning. I meant gist, or the main point of your argument or thrust. Actually I don't know when or if the pendulum might reach it's apex or when it might start to swing back. Will it start with a trend, recognized by only a few and then become general knowledge. I'd think so, but I'd need to consult with a Malcolm Gladwell or someone of his or your own intellect.
@Shirley Martin I cannot disagree with you, though I'd like to........as a means of further promoting a drab and fairly expressionless thread. Sorta like the politicians promoting some spending agenda, convincing us their efforts are only aimed in our favor. Like the promise that highways would be kept repaired using state lottery revenues, and after several decades the pot-holes just keep getting worse. We still must be vigilant, regarding the prowess of the Internet. It, too, is surely being manipulated; were it not, guys like Snopes would never have flourished! Frank
@Bill Boggs @Shirley Martin "@Frank Sanoica , has intellect?????????????????? " Guys, we best leave this guy's intellect lay dormant, lest we awaken it! Fire and Brimstone awaits! Cherish that which is close........draw in that which is yet not close.........light the fuse with daring, but have cleared in advance a safe escape route! Frank
There is no pendulum. The people have finally made a much needed correction. Fighting with the lifeguard, will serve no good purpose.
