I read the book series (12 books in all) written by Tim LaHaye and Jim Jenkins It's a fictional series, and follows the book of Revelations. I seriously doubt that The End Times will unfold the way the movie, or books depict, but you sorta have to stop and go hmmmm
a couple of the many critical reviews , which will stop me watching it... Not only is this an amateurish travesty combining fundamentalist Christian eschatology with disaster movie b.s., but it's plodding and tedious. Overt Christian messages and Cage's omnipresence are not the only reasons why Left Behind is a terrible movie. And yes, it's indeed terrible-god-awful, a less interesting, more convoluted version of the original Left Behind.
I also read the series as well as some others. Thought that the story lines were plausible and the characters were reasonable.
It's a movie that could definitely make some folks think. And, wife and I know one thing, if it ever did happen, we are positive where we are going.
Since it's based on a Christian theory, of course there are overt Christian messages. As movies go, it's not a bad movie. The subject matter is too great to handle in less than two hours so there is an incomplete feeling in it, but I wouldn't call it a terrible movie.
I read quite a number of the books (7 perhaps?) before I lost interest, but I haven't seen the movie. I found the premise implausible, but I followed the story line for a while. Not a believer in the Rapture premise, and the books have the internet up after the One World Government takes over. Really? It may be up, but it would be closely monitored. Just look at what goes on in a number of countries now with censorship. It would be much worse if there were an all-powerful government. I know, God could overcome, but....
The Scriptural evidence isn't conclusive, so I don't know whether there is going to be a rapture or not, nor do I know what to expect in heaven, or for sure whether I am going to go there. I willingly accept that God doesn't give us all the answers, or perhaps that I am not smart enough to figure everything out on my own. At 67, with a couple of cancers already, I don't suppose the chances of my being around for the rapture, if there is one, are very high anyhow.
