I would think being that heavy would make for a pretty miserable life. I guess for most of them all they have to enjoy in life is food...and that just makes there problem worse.
No, they are not "glamorizing" that much weight. This particular show is about treatment. It's getting more commonplace to see heavy-set people on TV, in advertising, etc. I suppose in an attempt to appeal to a "wider" audience (no pun intended).
I watched one of those shows once. It was a young man in his 20's. His mother just kept shoving food at him.
I have a heavy duty phobia or I guess one could call it that. I do believe that if I even thought that at some point I would find myself in a position whereby walking to the bathroom is too difficult and / or unable to properly clean myself afterward because of my inability to stop stuffing my face, I’d be taking some pretty serious action. Seriously, I cannot think of anything so cringe worthy as to have to ask someone to clean up the result of my bodily functions just because I like to eat.
@Beth Gallagher Or, where is the funding coming from? My wife says they are all on Medicaid. These guys must consume well over $100 worth of food EVERY DAY! That'd be $3000 a month. I can't imagine the govt paying for it. Food stamps are issued in discreet amounts, are they not? Frank
@Beth Gallagher Is that a type of Medicaid, or yet another rip-open of the Social Security Fund? Frank
I don't know that much about the programs, but Social Security benefits are income-replacement programs, whereas Medicare/Medicaid are medical coverage. Many people receive both a SS benefit and a Medicare/Medicaid benefit.
Sooo ....this is the modern-day version of the Fat Lady, at the Circus?? Baby Thelma Williams as the circus Fat Lady seen here reclining. Early 1950s photo possibly taken at the Champlain Valley Fair.
I've been between 198-203 lbs for a few years now, but it seems to be covering my 6'2" frame with no "fat" look... Hal
It seems "fat" is relative and is increasing over time. Reviewing the film Jesus Christ Superstar I remember thinking that Herod was extremely fat the first time I saw it. Now he doesn't look unusually fat to me.
