BTW, the source of this meme, Vivid Maps, has maps showing a lot of different things pertaining to the United States, which can be more easily demonstrated than in the use of statistics.
The baby boom, so-named because of the huge spike in births in the U.S. after World War II, is often thought of as the country's largest generation. But today, millennial's outnumber the boomers by 11 million people — having boosted their numbers through a wave of immigration, just as boomers have aged and started to die. By the middle of the 21st century, non-Hispanic whites will make up a slim and fading majority of Americans. Hispanics will be nearly one-fourth of the U.S. population. Blacks, Asians, and American Indians together will make up close to one-fourth of the population. “Minority” is likely to have a very different meaning in the 21st century. Recognizing that a shift is coming getting rid of the electoral college is a no brainer for democrats. I'm conflicted about whether I'd like to be around when liberal leaning progressives have the votes to implement their ideas or be glad I won't be since IMO that implementation will be the catalyst for the demise of America.
"I'm conflicted about whether I'd like to be around when liberal leaning progressives have the votes to implement their ideas or be glad I won't be since IMO that implementation will be the catalyst for the demise of America." Better Dead than Red. Pitiful.
That doesn't seem pitiful to me. I wouldn't want to live in a society created by leftists either. That choice would probably be taken away from me through mass executions though since that's what generally follows socialist takeovers.
Okay Ken that's fine with me. And yes, there were those awful mass executions in Scandinavia. I'll never get over those. According to Wikipedia: Finland Denmark Norway Iceland Netherlands "As per 2019 Happiness Report, Finland is the happiest country in the world, with Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and the Netherlands holding the next top positions." As for me, better red than dead. Seems you wouldn't have been an Auschwitz survivor with your attitude.
That's funny that you would use Wikipedia as a source because Wikipedia doesn't list any of these countries as being socialist. Finland - Unitary Parliamentary Republic Denmark - Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy Norway - Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy Iceland - Unitary Parliamentary Republic Netherlands - Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy In countries that are socialist, you'll find quite a different history, and I don't think you will find them among your happiest countries in the world. For example: China - Unitary One-Party Socialist Republic Vietnam - Unitary Marxist-Leninist One-Party Socialist Republic Soviet Union - Federal Marxist-Leninist One-Party Socialist Republic Cambodia's experiment with socialism under the Khmer Rouge wasn't exactly flowers and unicorns either.
@Lulu Moppet "Seems you wouldn't have been an Auschwitz survivor with your attitude." Please explain your meaning here. Seems ambiguous, unless my interpretive abilities are in decline. To have survived Auschwitz, IMO, one would have had to survive until the war ended, escaped, or fought successfully to prevent incarceration, no? Of the criteria I perceive: survival would likely be those of latest incarceration. The earliest likely were gone for the most part before the war ended. Escape was nearly impossible, as I understand it, and had the detained population known at the time that the guards, so heavily armed, had no ammunition, there would likely have been much greater effort expended at attempting to escape. Ammunition was too precious due to the actual fighting. A take-off on the above, two facts acted against retaliation or resistance: the Jews are/were disinclined to fight back due to cultural beliefs, and unawareness of the guards' lack of ammunition. The notable exception is the Warsaw Massacre, in which small groups of Jews did indeed fight back, and valiantly at that. Frank
Scandinavians are Democratic Socialists nations. All of Western Europe including the U.K., all of the Scandinavian countries, and Canada would qualify as being democratic socialist. What Countries are Socialist Democracies? "The Nordic model is the economic and social models of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland). During most of the post-war era, Sweden was governed by the Swedish Social Democratic Party largely in cooperation with trade unions and industry." Democratic socialism - Wikipedia
You are over-thinking this Frank. You're being unnecessarily pedantic. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
So, Lulu. Socialism is really OK with you? Did you go to school, have a career, put in extra hours, focus on making a better life for yourself? And would it be OK with you to hand over your earnings to be distributed to those who "didn't want to work" --as part of the substantial state intervention in the form of income redistribution, regulation, and a welfare state? I'm really curious. And are you for open borders? Do you agree with the Green New Deal? I want to know why liberals believe as they do, or if they are just so "Trump incensed" that they'd agree with anything.
Not according to their country pages, which simply goes to illustrate that, while Wikipedia can be informational, it is also easily manipulated and can literally be made to say whatever someone wants it to say. All that page demonstrates is that someone with a democratic socialist agenda edited that page. In fact, given that Wikipedia is a volunteer project, it stands to reason that anyone who elects to create a page on democratic socialism is someone who has an interest in the subject, and who wants to be able to show successes. Those who are creating country pages are more likely to have an interest in facts.
Don't condescend to me Beth. I was a graduate student at Oxford University. Your questions are posed in a foolish manner. Go ask them to a Swede, or a Norwegian or Tom or Holly who enjoy medical care without bankruptcies. If you repeat your questions as a grown-up, without the snark, I'd be more than willing to consider them.
