I just read about it on FB and had to check it out. No real news as of yet except I did provide a link that has several speculations and pictures of the incident. A nearly 674 year old icon is being destroyed. https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=...e&qpvt=notre+dame+cathedral+on+fire&FORM=EWRE
Tragic...and adding to the tragedy is that the fire is likely linked to renovations being done to preserve the iconic building.
Nothing can ever truly replace it but I’m sure someone is saying that they’ll rebuild. Possibly even an updated replica would be a massive undertaking.
Such a loss. I'm especially worried about the Rose Window. The intense heat, even if the fire doesn't reach it, will probably cause it to explode. I so enjoyed visiting there and felt such calm there.
I am now hearing reports that it is arson related to other less-successful attacks on Catholic churches throughout France. Don't know the reliability of the story, but it referenced a story in Newsweek from a month ago on arson and vandalism attacks on Roman Catholic churches. A previous fire reportedly burned a lesser-known church a few weeks ago and it was definitely determined to be arson. The story said that altars had been destroyed and church interiors had been vandalized in several cities across France. Perhaps revenge for Charles Martel and a result of French immigration policies???
In addition to the sorrowful loss of the many religious icons, I particularly feel a special loss for one of the greatest Pipe Organs in the world. I also believe this is the only great structure in Europe that employed the revolutionary "flying buttress" architecture for providing rigid outer walls. It was a tearful sight to see the Spire collapsing. Hal
Does this sound a bit like 9-11? If at first you don't succeed.... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...lised-by-isis-behind-failed-notre-dame-attack
2 centuries to build 63 minutes to destroy states the headlines this morning... Pictures of the ruin this morning here... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...Notre-Dame-inferno-leaves-world-mourning.html (sorry @Ken Anderson I've forgotten already how to do the short link)
It seems Macron is calling on all 27 countries (and anyone that feels compelled) to contribute to the re-building Cheek of him - does insurance not cover it ?
