Even before my time, women had some pretty unspectacular names, such as:

    Maud
    Phoebe
    Bessie
    Agnes
    Hortense
    Irma
    Tessie
    And others...please continue!

I would consider "Crystal" to be a modern cool-sounding name!

    I like Polly..too

. I suppose however names are subjective in their 'moderness'... if you haven't heard a name since you were a child, you may think it dull... yet 200 miles away it's in popular usage..

I have/had many aunts , uncles and cousins..... and some have boring names some a little unusual...and some Dull ( to me)..but maybe not to other...

I'm not keen on Ida, or Edie .. ( 2 of of my aunties names) yet someone else might think they're fab names...

I don't like my own name... but that's always been the same since I was a child....

    You have a point Hal.
Versa Crystal was my grandmother. b. 1888
Alida Crystal is my granddaughter. b. 1990
My daughter named my granddaughter with out knowing Crystal was my grandmother's middle name.

I think your grand-daughters' name is beautiful :D and how amazing that your daughter would name her child after her great grandma without previously knowing her name...
