Maybe we should have "Complexionism" since race is not determined solely based on skin tone. There are skeletal and and other biologic differences among the races as well. As I said before, Sambo was originally an Indian boy, not a Black. The racists among us decided that using Sambo in a restaurant name was racist, even though "Li'l Black Sambo" was Hindu in origin...which is part of the Caucasian race, not the Negroid. Jews are not a race either; they are an ethnic group. Perhaps prejudice against them should be referred to as "Etnicism". They part of the Semitic ethnic group which includes Arabs, so being anti-Semitic means you are anot only anti-Jew, but anti-Palestinian, and anti-Arab...which are again all part of the Caucasian race. It is all very confusing to me.
I grew up in a truly Archie Bunker home and worked so hard to get rid of those tapes that only caused pain to so many other people that were not my skin color. Love living in CA as we are long on diversity everywhere. Spent time in rehabs recently for a knee infection and met SO MANY people from all over the world and many of not my skin color and they are wonderful helpful Humans. CNA's from everywhere who were so helpful and made so little salaries. It sickens me that we have so much race prejudice in our grown up country. If there is a supreme creator, this soul created all colors. I would NOT give Prager a minute of my time.
Lon, so many just don't give others the time of day or stop to realize their value, regardless of country and color. I'm talking about in real life, and the net, good grief. Tragic.
There are people who I like, there are people who I don't like, and there are people who I don't care one way or the other about, but I have to get to know them before I can make that determination.
As I am of Caucasian, Native American, Bla k, and according to the DNA test, a little Bangladeshi (WTF?????) descent, I straddle the fence. I have slave-owning ancestors on one side and slave ancestors on the other. My Native American ancestors got mistreated by everyone. I just try to like everyone (well, except for politicians......and I'm an equal opportunity disliker there).
"You've got to be taught to hate and fear You've got to be taught from year to year It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear You've got to be carefully taught! You've got to be taught to be afraid Of people whose eyes are oddly made And people whose skin is a different shade You've got to be carefully taught! You've got to be taught before it's too late Before you are six or seven or eight To hate all the people your relatives hate You've got to be carefully taught, You've got to be carefully taught!" From the musical "South Pacific" 1958 Hal
Well despite those lyrics, may not have had the best childhood..but I was never taught to hate or despise any person of a different colour or ethnicity to me. We didn't have many people of colour in the city where I was raised, but those we did have were mainly Indians, and they owned the little corner shops. .. but the highest amount of immigrants were from Italy.. so everywhere we had Italians, running restaurants and fish & chip shops, ice cream companies and vans .. we went to school with the kids.. and never even gave it a thought that they weren't Scottish, we just accepted them as people... the same as all of us!!. All of that said... we were from the youngest age, taught to despise people of a different religion... but that's always been the way with Scots and the Irish and Catholics and protestants. It's all wrong of course but it's been that way for centuries
I was never taught to dislike any particular group. I dislike them because they brought it on themselves by just pushing too far with whatever confused concept they have in their head.
I should have added, that despite my upbringing and all the protestant Catholic problems .. I don't despise anyone of any religion
I'm glad at least someone is aware of that. Humans are part of the animal kingdom and we still have our natural instincts. Just as other species gather in groups or flocks, so it is our natural instinct to be with our own kind, and to be wary of those who are different.
Races of people are like baskets of apples, each basket being a different shade of apple. Within each basket there will be bad ones, over ripe ones and a whole bunch of sweet ones.
