They must! I've never tasted one, my wife likes them, I'm sure there must be some way to prepare them that would suit my finicky tastes! Maybe sweetener.

My mother grew the pits into tiny trees in our living room. Speaking of her, brought to mind her love for Eggplant.

Yuck! She loved them; I tasted it one time only as a kid.

OK, then, how DO they taste? Several decades ago, avocados were declared off-limits by the "health-food" experts, who cited their high fat content. What about that?

Vegetable fat vs animal fat? The basic differences elude me, and I've never studied it: to me "grease is grease". It lubricates mechanisms, which I like, it makes certain foods nearly irresistable, potato chips, pizza, fried chicken, Doritos, meats, and the like, the charm of those beckons me as I list them!

Some fats "good"? Years back, they were not. Eggs, high-fat dairy products, lard, hydrogenated fats, who, then, could understand it all? Not me.

Who understands it all now? Still, not me.

Avacados are one of my favorite foods and I eat them several times a week. I love them in a omelette, in a salsa, guacamole dip , salads, just plain.

I just had 1/2 in my morning breakfast soup. Love love love them.

I've gotten off breads, bagels, cereals and those carbs years ago, dead foods and add health problems as I've done a lot of search on this carb subject.

There are good fats and bad fats, I also believe Coconut Oil is a good oil.

Our brains need good oils...we've given out all those statins to reduce cholesterol and maybe that's why so many with dementia etc in facilities. Their brains are dried out from statin use. Oh those legal drug pushers.

Just as with any other food, taste is subjective. Many people don't like the "mouth feel" of avocado, but to me they are creamy and delicious. I can't believe you live in the southwest and have not had guacamole at a Mexican restaurant!! :D

I don't remember any time avocados were vilified by the Health Police, unless it was back during the low-fat diet craze. Now the "low carb/high fat" crowd has another fad going. :D They are definitely a high-fat food, but "good" fat.

I believe all things in moderation, and I don't restrict my diet in any way except for portions. If I want bread, I have bread... usually with real butter or toasted and spread with mashed avocado. Yummy.

What's that comment, about not eating in mexican rest and guacamole...I've lived in CA for over 50 yrs and have eaten in plenty of Mexican eateries and many avocado foods...even my sushi.

If I want bread I'll have it too, but I've chosen to be off it now for about 10 yrs. Out for a juicy burger I order it with a toasted greasy bun. I agree moderation...but also choices.

If you'll notice, my comment was responding to Frank--that I'm surprised he hasn't had guacamole since he lives in the southwest.

No biggie. It took me a while to get used to the layout of this forum and I was often quoting the wrong posts. (I had to look to make sure I hadn't done it again. :D)

I didn't answer thinking it might hurt your feelings, but maybe it won't.......I did not know guacamole was made from avocados to begin with, but knowing it now supports my reluctance to even taste it. Sorry.

LOL. I am not so fragile as to be wounded by your reluctance to taste avocado, Frank. But thanks for considering my feelings. :D (I'll have your share!!)
