They are known as the great northern diver in the UK and are winter visitors to the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland, although I have heard of sightings of them off the Cornish coast in the south-west of England. We also have the smaller red-throated diver, mainly found around Shetland and Orkney.
So beautiful. Does their eye really match their throat?? How can anyone look at this and deny an intelligent creator.
Those darn Canada geese have been showing up the last few days. I guess we'll be eating goose eggs again this spring. Maybe some roast goose and goose livers too.

Geese are pretty to look at ... from afar! ... At age 23 and very pregnant, I got chased by a couple wild burly geese. This was out in the country in Ohio, at a farm we were visiting. I don't remember the details, only that it scared the living daylights out of me!!! (thankfully not the baby)..
