I read about this this morning. She was yelling and cursing at passengers on the bus and he asked her (told her?) to be nicer to other passengers. Apparently that was the last thing she wanted to hear from anyone.

I really hope the Judge sentences her to prison for years. And, BTW, no word on why the lady was yelling and cursing at passengers.

I just read that she's has a history of being abusive, and further to that she had her child with her on the bus, who would have witnessed the whole thing, so can you imagine what it must be like for that child behind closed doors!!!?

I'm just totally horrified at this woman's actions... if they don't lock her up for life, there's something very wrong with the system...

I don't think she should serve one day in jail. She obviously has a history of mental illness that society has chosen to ignore and it is society that must bear the blame for the incident. The Defense rests!!!

Yes they surely knew about her and should have had her reported for mental care. As unfortunate as the incident was I don't believe that people with a history of insanity or mental illness are accountable for their actions. Imprisoning her or killing her serves no purpose.

Maybe if it had been you that was pushed off the bus, you'd feel differently. I think plain old MEAN PEOPLE use mental illness as an excuse for their lack of self control.

If it had been me pushed off the bus nothing would matter. Look---I am a firm believer in the DEATH PENALTY and incarceration for certain offences, particularly if they are pre-meditated. Her act( CRIME) was spontaneous.

You are making a lot of unfounded assumptions with no basis in fact. According to the reports I read, she was disruptive on the bus and yelling at several different passengers. The older gentleman asked her to stop being disruptive and he paid the ultimate price. I've seen no report that she was mentally ill, and it seems like she simply has anger management issues. So I'll save my bleeding heart response to a hateful individual until proven otherwise. She killed a man, for Christ's sake.

Question for you Beth-----What if it had been a mean tempered hateful 10 year old bully of a boy that pushed the old gent? Also ---yelling at passengers like she did is hardly normal behavior for anyone----even if mean.

I think that people should be held responsible for their actions regardless of their mental state, and put away somewhere where they aren't going to harm anyone else until there is some assurance that they will no longer be a danger to others. I'm sorry about the mental illness but it's not my fault, nor was it the fault of the man she pushed. If someone is too mentally ill to be held responsible for their actions, then they should not be allowed to walk free and endanger others.
