Same is happening to Australia.[/QUOTE] Yeah, we really do not mess with any food products from China for human consumption but a few years ago we bought some dry dog food which was laced with melamine as a filler which killed a couple of our dogs and thousands more in the U.S. Funny (not funny as in ha-ha) but if an American dog food company had played the same game as the Chinese, the company would have been sued to the limit of the law and the doors closed. But for the Chinese company, other than some bad publicity and possibly a small slap on the wrist, I never heard of any major lawsuits.
Same here when it comes to Australian goods. Many surveys show that Australians will pay the little extra if the goods are made on our shores.. preferably by Australian companies.
That is terrible Bobby. Surely you had grounds to sue the Chinese. I know if someone poisoned my dogs I would move heaven and hell to see they faced justice. Not too late to organise a civil class action?
Australia had to remove Chinese -made mixed frozen berries from supermarket shelves in 2015 and again in 2017 over a Hepatitis 1 scare. Half a dozen people were believed to have been infected with the disease while hundreds of others had mild symptoms. A year later frozen pomegranates were also recalled for the same complaint. I also understand there has been no move against the Chinese company responsible. To my knowledge the offending product is still being sold in Australia.
My in-laws lost a dog from poisoned Chinese dog food, too. A lot of dogs and cats died, and it wasn't just because people were intentionally buying Chinese pet food. Several of the pet foods involved were from US-based pet food companies who either bought ingredients or, in some cases, outsourced the actual production of the food to China. Not only have the tariffs been imbalanced in favor of China but the US Postal Service was subsidizing the shipment of goods from China so that it was cheaper to ship something from China to a destination in the United States than it was to ship it from one place in the United States to another. I think the Trump Administration ended that. I know that he intended to unless it was one of several moves that were blocked by Democrats in the court system.
Well here is the latest on Wallmart and tariffs: https://in.reuters.com/article/walm...increase-prices-for-us-shoppers-idINKCN1SM169 But it will be OK as everything will be offset by all the taxes one will be saving.
Is there anything that you DO like? I mean, other than your own personal formulas for heath, there doesn’t seem to be anything that makes you happy. If you’re on Social Security, then you got the largest raise this last January than we’ve had in years. Your family is getting new tax breaks like crazy, that is, unless they haven’t filed correctly. It’s a buyer’s market for housing in most states, and if you like, you could move to Colorado with Cody and his wife where they’re fixing to legalize magic mushrooms. Bottom line is that all we’re really looking for is that this administration try to keep his campaign promises and if there is some wiggle room, improve a couple of other things. About WallyWorld, no matter the price, you still have to examine what you buy. They have some American made products but if you’re stuck on Chinese, buy it and watch it break. If the prices are too high, then order from Amazon or ask yourself, “do I really need that product”? Do you remember Obama’s solution to the high price of Obama Care? He said that you might have to cut out the cable TV, get an Obama phone instead of a good phone, do without a computer and buy a cheaper car. Is that what you want to go back to? Heck with the tax thing, I’m just happy that all the derned riots we went through during the Obama administration are over or, did ya kind of like that? No, don’t answer that but I do know that some folks are kinda kinky that way and enjoy watching someone’s business burn down. Good air in, bad air out. Repeat. Ah...happy, happy, happy!
When WalMart started, Sam Walton was proud to offer American made products. Since his death, WalMart has become known for offering little other than Chinese products. Using slave labor, China can produce its stuff with much lower overhead than American companies can, and the American taxpayers were subsidizing shipping costs from China under Obama, so if tariffs can give American companies a fair chance, I am all for them.
There are 100's of subjects besides Trumps's world. We're talking about Trump here right. I love to play bridge, want to get up a game? Enjoy good food, want to talk about food. And yes good health, I enjoy that immensely. A good movie, yes, and some great music for sure. Let's talk ... but this is about Trump right here, right?
Thanks for the web site, reading the article for myself helps. From the article in web site Joy Martin posted. "Walmart U.S. Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran said on a conference call the company will maintain its “low-price leadership” and “manage costs on an item-by-item basis.” But that position has been threatened, in part, by rising competition from discount chains like Aldi. Also, Walmart’s vendors have started to raise prices, among them Del Monte Foods, which supplies fresh and packaged goods to Walmart, including mandarin oranges imported from China. Prices will go up again with tariffs rising." Doesn't sound like the sky is falling for WalMart. Unless the potential increase in mandarin oranges makes paying a utility bill impossible. don't have an Aldi here but competition IMO works best for the consumer.
I don't know WM's history but China didn't beg them to come to China for all their products, someone in WM went there, isn't this so. I don't shop WM, we don't have one near where I live, and when I went into one on my way to Palm Springs, I didn't like the feel or smell.
Only insofar as it pertains to tariffs on Chinese goods, and vice versa. If you have nothing on your mind except how much you hate Trump (because the only media you will watch tells you to), then you should go looking for an anti-Trump forum somewhere. CNN must have one.
I reiterate what I said before; I think perhaps @Joy Martin would be happier on an "I Hate Trump" forum. Birds of a feather do tend to flock together, don't they?
No, we’re talking about China but what the heck, it’s good to know you like some stuff. Do you like China? Why don’t you think we should match their tariff system in regard to trade? You must like China or you wouldn’t be complaining about Trump matching their tariffs. Poor Chinese government! They’ll have to dock their slave labor in order to keep up or raise their prices across the board which by the bye, they have already done a number of times in very recent years and now (gasp!) they threaten to do it again or (fade in the shock music) raise their tariffs again! Plus...... They’ll have to re-cheapen their products, put melamine in the dog food again, quit eating American Hot Pockets and go back to rice. Lousy Americans! We just can’t stop the national debt from climbing because we should rather be financially subservient to another country! Yes! Let’s just kick back, say screw the work and get government assistance just like it was when good ol’ Barack had the big seat. Let’s owe the Chinese even more money and then wait for them to collect what we owe the old fashioned way: sell off more of our country to them! Yeah, think of all the neat Chinese stuff we can do! I mean, we only owe the world some 20 trillion. Hmmmmm....how much do ya think we can get for Colorado? Naw, ....if they traded for a state, the Chinese who would live there would have to import rice and pay their own tariffs to get it. Maybe they could all go on U.S. government assistance and get their rice for free?
Please don't misunderstand. I don't care if someone hates Trump or disagrees with whatever it is that he does, but that's not the only thing we talk about here. This particular thread is about US-China tariffs, and I wouldn't mind our keeping strong tariffs on Chinese goods, given that so many of our industries have gone there and so much of the products we get from China is problematic, but we certainly shouldn't be subsidizing Chinese industries.
