I remember all of those songs very well, too !! I always loved listening to Tennessee Ernie sing, and his gospel songs were awesome ! Like most every other teenager, i also loved Elvis presley, and had many of his early albums. I really enjoyed most of the ballads that Elvis sang, and some of the faster ones, too; such as "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck". My very favorite when I was younger was Wild in the Country.
That was a beautiful song, Yvonne! Thank you. I liked Presley very much but mainly his slow ballad songs. Here is one more that is not Elvis but Slim Whitman. I like how he raised his voice at the end of some bars.
Aaah, yes, Slim Whitman.......also one of my very most favorite singers ! I think that his rendition of "Indian Love Call" was the one that first made him famous, and another one that was very popular was "Rose Marie". That man sure could yodel, and I loved to hear him when he did it. There have been other well-known yodelers; but none that sing like Slim Whitman. I used to have at least one of his record albums. Here I another song that I really love, and Slim Whitman also does this one beautifully.
I love to watch comedy movies ever since, but there was one movie that stands out in my memory because of what happened on that fateful day that I watched the movie. The cinema where it was shone was fully packed , I was standing on the right side with many others when somebody on the crowd shouted 'Fire!' when the scene on the screen was actually a fire burning. Panic inside the cinema followed and I saw people stepping on each others head and my companion grabbed me to the farthest side where we can't be step on. When the light was turned on I found one of my shoes missing and the Reader's digest that i was carrying. i was lucky i was not among those injured but many were not as lucky. The movie was the "Ten Commandments."
I remember all the older songs and movies mentioned but since the thread is about childhood memories I have to mention Disney's " Song of the South". Uncle Remus' tale about B'rer Rabbit. I got the DVD for my grandkids. When a little older I was scared to death by "The Thing" and then the first 3D movie "The House of Wax" starring Vincent Price.
That experience happened when i was in my teens but it left me with a phobia or fear of mingling or going to a crowded place. It's funny but from that time on, i would only see a movie on the last day of showing where few people are viewing.
The Cruel Sea was one of the first I remember in 1953, about the only movie I recall my parents went to see
